Collin Morikawa has revealed what happened the very first time he got to meet Tiger Woods, as he also shared what his wife thinks of the 15-time major champion.

It is simply impossible to argue with those who place Tiger Woods above anyone else who has ever played the game of golf, with the American second to only Jack Nicklaus when it comes to major championship victories. Had it not been for injuries, Woods may well have overtaken Nicklaus.

Clearly, he is no longer the player he once was, but there is a reason why he continues to be one of the most popular players in the game. And it seems that many of the world’s best are simply fans like those who watch the 48-year-old from behind the ropes.

Woods changed the game and inspired so many who are on tour now. And it appears that Collin Morikawa is one of those who was taken aback the first time he met Woods.

“It was 2019 in the Zozo Championship locker room, we have the same agent and he had just introduced me for like three seconds, and I didn’t know what to say. I was like, ‘hi’, and he’s like, ‘oh yeah, I know who you are’. I’m like, ‘cool, okay, thanks’. Just kind of left it at that,” he said.

“[Since then] We’ve had a lot better interactions, I’ve gotten to know him a lot better and he’s awesome. Now I get zero nerves around him. My wife freaks out, I think Tiger’s the only person my wife would freak out over that I know of,” he added.

What 15-time major champion may not actually get enough credit for

Woods had that aura of being almost superhuman when he was on the golf course, so it is hardly surprising that Morikawa was almost lost for words when they first met.

Morikawa was born in February 1997, just a couple of months before Woods won his first major title – so he has known nothing else other than Woods being the biggest name in the game.

Woods has embraced being a mentor to many of the younger golfers now starring on the PGA Tour, and he arguably actually has to take a lot of credit for the golden era which is currently taking place – with Morikawa one of those playing incredible golf and setting the standard for the next generation.
