Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are both in the mix following round two of The Truist Championship and the American pair are now both well clear in one impressive statistic on the PGA Tour.
Both Thomas and Morikawa are sat at seven under par after mixed fortunes in round two in Philadelphia.
Thomas – who recently ended his drought on TOUR – carded an impressive round of 67 to move within five of the lead.

For Morikawa, it was more of a battle as he could only make par after getting himself to seven under in the opening round on Friday.
Of course, Morikawa’s own drought now stretches back to the ZOZO in 2023 and despite some impressive form, he’s been unable to get it over the line.
However, both Morikawa and Thomas can be pleased with their work of late and after two rounds of The Truist, they now comfortably top the leaderboard for one key metric in signature events.

The impressive birdies made stat Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa sit top of on the PGA Tour
Both Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are among the best golfers in the world so it is little wonder that oftentimes, it is a birdie-fest for the pair.
Still, in a stat shared on screen during live coverage of the Truist in round two, it displayed just how far ahead of the rest both Morikawa and Thomas are.
In terms of birdies made in signature events, Morikawa tops the pile with 102 coming into the week ahead of Thomas on a solid 100.
Interestingly, since the opening round, Morikawa has extended his lead over Thomas by landing a further 11 birdies, with Thomas making another seven so far.
It goes without saying, then, that if this form continues, it won’t be long before we see Morikawa winning again, while Thomas could well be in contention in a major.
The most birdies ever made in a PGA Tour season
Making a birdie is hard enough so when the PGA Tour players spend their time making six and seven a round, it’s very much to the amazement of the casual golfer or fan.
Still, while Thomas and Morikawa impress here, the record for a full season in terms of birdies made is held by Sungjae Im.
Im made a whopping 498 birdies in 2021, while Im also holds the record for most birdies in a 72-hole tournament after making 34 at The Sentry last year.
Whether or not Thomas and Morikawa reach those levels, remains to be seen. But if they do, it just goes to show that major success is not guaranteed either.
