Colin Montgomerie has expressed his disbelief on Instagram after it was announced that Justin Rose would be playing in a certain event ahead of The Open Championship this month.
With three majors out of the way and all of the signature events on the PGA Tour behind us as well, thoughts are now turning to Royal Troon and The Open Championship – with a star-studded field set to descend on South Ayrshire.
Of course, there are still some places up for grabs, with five spots available across the John Deere Classic and the Scottish Open, while some will be putting themselves through final qualifying on Tuesday.
Many LIV Golf stars, including Sergio Garcia and Graeme McDowell, will be involved at the various courses, while Justin Rose is also attempting to secure a place in the coming hours.
Colin Montgomerie shocked to see Justin Rose involved at final qualifying for The Open Championship
Rose has had a tough couple of years, missing the cuts at The Masters and the US Open. He did finish tied for sixth at the PGA Championship, but his form has not been good enough to earn the 43-year-old an automatic spot at the final major of the year.

A post on Instagram detailed that Rose was set to tee off his final qualifying round at 9:30am on Tuesday, and that prompted a strong response from Colin Montgomerie, as well as coach Sean Foley…

2024 has been a struggle for Englishman
Rose was so important to Europe’s win in Rome last year, with his presence helping a clearly nervous Robert MacIntyre on his Ryder Cup debut. And he had that special moment when he holed his putt on Friday evening to halve his match.
But he has missed five out of 15 cuts on the PGA Tour this season and only registered one top 10 finish, so he will probably be the first to admit that he has struggled to do enough over the course of the season.
It would be no surprise at all to see Rose impress at final qualifying and still book his ticket to Royal Troon – and should he get there, it should come as no shock if he does manage to contend.
