Charley Hull makes comment about Tiger Woods after she clinches her first LPGA title of the season

Charley Hull is now a three-time champion on the LPGA Tour after claiming victory at the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Hull edged out Jeeno Thitikul by one shot at TPC River’s Bend, where the latter held a one-shot lead heading into the final hole.

But world number one Thitikul four-putted for bogey as Hull birdied to secure the trophy and her first LPGA Tour title since 2022.

The Englishwoman carded rounds of 68, 65, 67 and 68 in Ohio, finishing on 20-under, one shot ahead of Thitikul.

She has now added to her titles from the CME Group Tour Championship and The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America in 2016 and 2022 respectively.

But it was far from straightforward for the champion, who was asked after the win what was going through her head during her final putt.

Hull replied: “Yeah, it was only like a foot putt, but I think I was generally that shocked. And then I get a lot of adrenaline on the way round.

“I can cog down… say if it was like a 190 pin that would be a 5-iron; I could hit a 7-iron that far. And I feel like I was pretty calm coming into the green knew I had to hole the putt for eagle.

“Missed it and had a foot putt. When I realized I had it for the win I had this mad shock of adrenaline come through me and my hands were like shaking.

“I was like, oh, no. Usually I can calm it down in like five minutes but I had to play straightaway. I had to back off it twice.

“I don’t know how like Tiger Woods won that many tournaments, that much pressure. It was just a shock. If I knew it was to win coming up the hole I think I would’ve been fine.

“I think I was just so shocked. Yeah, I holed it and it was good. Even though it was a foot putt, they feel like 10-footers.”

Legendary figure Woods has, of course, been in such a situation many times throughout his phenomenal career.

And more often than not he has prevailed as Hull did, boasting 82 PGA Tour wins and 15 major championship wins.

Staying calm and composed is a skill in itself and a hugely important one at that stage of tournaments, and it was one that Woods mastered.

But Hull now knows she can do the same, which should give the 29-year-old plenty of confidence going forward.

While she deserves huge credit for her success at Hamilton Township, it is arguably not a surprise given her current form.

Shortly before the Kroger Queen City Championship, Hull finished T2 at the Aramco Houston Championship ​​and the AIG Women’s Open.
