Charley Hull has suggested that her chances of emulating Tommy Fleetwood and winning an Olympic medal for Team GB have already been dealt a bit of a blow ahead of the women’s golf event at Le Golf National.
Charley Hull is making her second appearance at the Olympic Games, having been involved at Rio eight years ago. She will be alongside long-time friend Georgia Hall at Le Golf National.
Hull looks to be well-placed to compete for a spot on the podium this week, with the 28-year-old ranked 11th in the world right now. She also finished inside the top 25 at the first three majors of the season, with three top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour this year.
But perhaps her chances of glory in the coming days have been dealt a setback.
Charley Hull thinks Olympic medal hopes have been dealt a blow
Hull is a smoker on the golf course due to helping with her ADHD after being diagnosed with the condition last year.
However, it turns out Hull will not be able to smoke at Le Golf National. And, in comments reported by The Telegraph, she suggested that that may hurt her chances of success.

“Yeah, I do smoke on the course, it’s just something I do,” she said. “It’s a habit but I won’t do this week.” When asked why, she replied: “I don’t think you’re allowed.”
“Yeah, I think it will,” she added, when asked if it will impact her chances. “Because it relaxes me a little bit. But it is what it is.”
Team GB star feels like a real wildcard this week
It has been apparent for well over a decade now that Hull has the natural talent to compete with the best players on the planet. She has finished inside the top 25 at more than half of her major appearances, but there is the potential for Hull to struggle too. She has missed 15 cuts in 54 major appearances in her career.
Unfortunately, her Evian Championship last month started with an eight over par round of 79 to all but dash her hopes of making the weekend.
The likes of Min Woo Lee and Wyndham Clark showed last week that a disastrous first round does not mean you cannot then bounce back and fly up the leaderboard, but clearly, with the field’s eyes only on those top three places, Hull will be desperate to get off to a fast start.
