Former NBA superstar and ESPN pundit Charles Barkley knows a thing or two about golf but he’s surprised everyone with his choice of favourite player to watch on the PGA Tour.
Barkley was part of the commentary team for The Showdown as Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler beat out Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a first of its kind event in Las Vegas.
With Barkley and others involved in different ways, the event very much had a casual feel to it for the viewer at home.
Barkley, of course, is never afraid to offer up an opinion and on ESPN’s Inside NBA, is often causing trouble by opening his mouth.
Indeed, Barkley had his say on LIV Golf during The Showdown as he didn’t hold back on what’s unfolding and carrying on his rather out-there views, the former Phoenix Suns star has now named the most surprising of favourite golfers to watch.

Normally, the very top players like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler or Tiger Woods are the names people throw out there in terms of their favourites.
But for Barkley, his favourite player to watch on the PGA Tour is two-time winner and little known 39-year-old, Luke List.
Speaking live during The Showdown, Barkley said he just loves watching List swing a golf club.
“My favourite player to watch swing golf clubs is Luke List, I love watching…him swing a golf club. But Rory is right there. But Luke List I could watch [all day],” Barkley chirped.
Who is PGA Tour winner Luke List?
Luke List is a 39-year-old professional golfer from Seattle, USA, and turned pro in 2007.
It’s not downplaying List to say he was a surprising pick by Barkley here. Put simply, List is just one of a number of PGA Tour players who just go about their business quietly and efficiently.
List is a seasoned veteran of the TOUR and has won two events on the PGA Tour, once at the Farmers in 2022, and again at the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2023, where he won out in a five-man playoff involving Ludvig Aberg.
List was first on the PGA Tour in 2012 but quickly lost his card after finishing outside the FedEx top 150.
However, he returned in 2014 and has been around ever since. List’s record in the majors is not great though, with a sixth place at the 2019 PGA his best effort. He didn’t make the US Open and Open in 2014, was cut from the PGA and mustered up a tie for 38 at The Masters.
In 2024 overall, List finished 75th in the FedEx standings to keep his card again, albeit he record just a single top ten finish all season, finishing in 2nd at The Genesis back in March.
