Bubba Watson is a man who has been around golf long enough to know the ins and outs of the game and when it comes to the best year he’s ever seen in golf, he thinks there’s one winner.
Of course, Tiger Woods is often regarded as having had the best spell of any golfer between 2000 and 2001.
Woods won a number of titles in the period, including his famous ‘Tiger Slam’ which included the US Open, The Open and the PGA Championship in 2000, before winning his second Masters title in 2001.
However, Scottie Scheffler won nine events in 2024, including The Masters and an Olympic gold medal.
And when it comes to picking who had the better year, former Masters winner Bubba Watson believes one man triumphs.

Bubba Watson picks who had the better year out of Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler
Watson was speaking to Golf.com and giving a wide-ranging interview on a number of golf subjects.
And while chatting about his former caddy Ted Scott, Watson mentioned Scottie Scheffler and in doing so, made a claim about his 2024.
“Scottie was already a great golfer. But that friendship and that bond [with Ted Scott], he went to an elite golfer,” Watson said.
“I mean that was the best year we’ve seen. I know Tiger did some stuff in 2000. But Scottie’s year was the best we’ve ever seen. With all the talent around the world, that was it. I think it’s amazing.”

Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler’s best years compared
Given Woods won three majors in 2000, many would point towards that as being the deciding factor in this argument.
However, Scheffler did win one and a number of signature events, while he also got that gold medal that Tiger would have craved had golf been in the Olympics in his prime.
| Tiger Woods – 2000 | Scottie Scheffler – 2024 | |
| Events played | 20 | 19 |
| Events won | 9 | 7 |
| Majors won | 3 | 1 |
| Top 10s | 17 | 16 |
| Missed cuts | 0 | 0 |
| Prize money | $9,188,321 | $29,228,357 |
Looking purely at the numbers, Woods’ major wins do seem to edge it for him on pure statistics.
But Scheffler is not far behind and as Watson says, there are reasons to put his 2024 above Tiger’s greatest ever run.
It’s a shame, really, that Woods remains injured and we don’t get to see these two battle it out more often.
