Bubba Watson is right in contention to win his first LIV Golf event in Virginia this weekend.

Watson is still one of the most exciting players to watch on LIV, what with his explosive power and incredible ability to curve the ball both ways.

The 46-year-old has struggled a lot over the past few years, but he seems to be rediscovering some of his best form now.

Watson recently suggested that LIV Golf is on a real upwards trajectory, as he explained how the Saudi-backed golf league are reaching places on the globe that other tours are not.

LIV definitely gets unfairly criticised sometimes, although the fact that they only play three rounds in tournaments will always hold them back when it comes to world ranking points.

Watson will be keen to keep playing well himself, in addition to help keep driving LIV Golf forward as an entity.

Watson currently sits two shots adrift of the leader, Anirban Lahiri.

The two-time Masters champion has driven the ball fairly well, hit his iron shots solidly and putted very well indeed during the first two rounds of LIV Virginia.

He will probably need to go low tomorrow, if he is to win his first ever LIV event.

Watson could have gone a lot lower today, had he rolled a couple more putts in from long range, but he just didn’t have his pace right during a three-hole stretch around the turn.

He spoke to the media after his round, and shared how baffled he was by the speed of the greens on the 9th, 10th and 11th greens.

Watson said, Yeah, for some reason on 9, 10 and 11, those greens, I left them all short. The greens are lightning fast out there, so for me to leave those three short, it didn’t make sense.

Obviously I babied it or something, but Patrick Reed on 9 ran it past the hole so I thought mine was going to be a little speedy but I left it way short, made it. Then on 10 I saw Peter Uihlein putt it past so I thought it was going to be speedy again. I left it short.

Then I left it short — definitely on 11, I thought there’s no way to leave it short. I was worried about going in the water.

So yeah, it was just a weird stretch of holes. I thought I hit good putts and they just came up well short. Yeah, obviously anytime you can make a putt or a save like that, it’s a big deal.

Bubba Watson’s 2025 LIV stats

Watson has been really consistent this season, although his results haven’t backed that up just yet.

The 46-year-old is inside the top 17 on LIV in four of the five key statistical categories this season:

Statistical categoryWatson’s 2025 rank
Fairways hit11th
Greens in regulation17th
PuttingT-15th
Scrambling42nd
Driving distance13th

If Watson can improve upon his scrambling around the greens, his first LIV won’t be too far away.

However, he’ll be hoping that he doesn’t need to rely on his short game at all on Sunday at LIV Virginia as he hunts down what would be a huge victory for him at this stage of his career.
