Bubba Watson fired a really impressive opening round of five-under par 66 at LIV Golf UK on Thursday.
In recent weeks on LIV Golf, long-hitting Watson has shown signs that his game is returning to somewhere near its best.
He has recorded two top-10s in his last five starts on LIV, including a T-4 in Virginia.
The two-time Masters champion left the PGA Tour to join LIV in 2022.
Watson has spoken extensively about how LIV and the PGA Tour can co-exist, but that seems a long way off becoming reality right now.
For now, all he can do is focus on his own game, and hope that he manages to chalk up his first win on the Saudi-backed golf league sooner rather than later.
Bubba Watson gives his opinion on the fans at LIV Golf UK
Watson was in impeccable form during day one at The JCB Golf and Country Club on Friday.

There is still a long way to go, but he must feel like he’s in a good position to challenge over the weekend.
Watson was cheered on by the English crowd all throughout his round.
And when speaking to reporters after his five-under par 66, he responded when asked what he thought of the fans at The JCB Club.
He said: “Yeah, the atmosphere is great. This is perfect weather. You couldn’t ask for better weather. Maybe less wind just for us golfers. But all the people out there, they were cheering for shots. They were in good spirits. It was very nice. You couldn’t ask for more, especially since I was playing good. If I was playing bad, maybe it wouldn’t have been in good spirits, but it lucked out for me today; I played good.
The crowd here is always good. They understand golf. They understand good shots and bad shots, especially when we come across the pond. They respected good shots when they know a 20-footer is a good shot sometimes.“
Bubba Watson’s 2025 LIV stats
Watson, 46, hasn’t enjoyed the best of seasons in 2025.
However, he does have six top-25s to his name in 10 starts, which is by no means bad.
| Results | Watson’s totals |
| Events played | 10 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-5s | 1 |
| Top-10s | 2 |
| Top-25s | 6 |
On his day, Watson is still good enough to mix it with the very best players on LIV Golf.
And he will be hoping that he is able to get over the line at The JCB Club on Sunday.
