Bryson DeChambeau has revealed how he feels that LIV Golf has helped him become a better player following the American’s triumph at the US Open at Pinehurst.

Bryson DeChambeau is, of course, now a two-time major champion after emerging victorious in a battle for the ages against Rory McIlroy in North Carolina last week.

For many, the victory had been coming, with the 30-year-old finishing tied for sixth at The Masters and then coming second at the PGA Championship. He was so close to being involved in a play-off with Xander Schauffele at Valhalla.

There is a question mark over whether the likes of Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and even Jon Rahm have benefitted on the course from making the jump to LIV Golf. But when it comes to DeChambeau, there is surely little doubt.

Bryson DeChambeau suggests how playing on LIV has helped him in the majors

DeChambeau has become one of the most popular players on the planet in the last couple of years, and he is able to take his impressive performances on LIV into the majors.

Some may dispute how much of a part LIV has played in his progress, but speaking on The Feherty Interview, DeChambeau suggested that he has unquestionably improved due to the breakaway tour.

“Yeah, especially for major championships. Man, the off-time we have, the ability we have to work on our game, the ability to come up with new ideas, make my game flourish and grow is instrumental,” he said.

“People early on were saying there’s not enough tournaments. I’m like, ‘no, there’s enough tournaments, we’ve got to place them in the correct places’, which they did. And boy has it just exploded my game, with the right equipment, the right prep time, the right lead up time, LIV Golf has been a tremendous help to what I’ve been able to accomplish this year.”

DeChambeau did probably benefit from not playing The Memorial week before Pinehurst

It always has to be said that there are very valid reasons to criticise LIV, but DeChambeau makes a good point when it comes to the time off.

None of the players who finished in the top five at The Memorial finished in the top 10 at the US Open one week later, with Adam Hadwin missing the cut and the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick finishing well down the leaderboard.

DeChambeau did play in Houston the week before the US Open, but LIV had had a lengthy break before that event. And The Memorial is surely one of the toughest tests on the PGA Tour calendar.

There is definitely a balance to be had. Most of the players on the American Ryder Cup team last year had too long a break between events before heading to Rome.

But it will probably not surprise many on LIV that DeChambeau has almost become Big Match Bryson with the schedule that he now has.
