You would have to think that LIV Golf would have absolutely taken just one shot separating Joaquin Niemann and Jon Rahm heading into the final round of their event at Indianapolis this week.

As things stand, Joaquin Niemann is on course to win the individual title on LIV Golf this season. The Chilean is doing enough right now to ensure that Jon Rahm cannot pip him to the crown at the final hurdle for the second year running.

But the Spaniard is not out of the running yet by any means.

Rahm needs to earn 13 more points than Niemann this week. And given that he is currently tied for ninth with one round to go, you would imagine that the Legion XIII captain will go on the attack on Sunday at Chatham Hills.

Of course, it has been a stunning season for Niemann. The 26-year-old has managed to win five times in 12 events. His rival, on the other hand, is still awaiting his first victory of the season.

Some do not believe Rahm should have a chance to win the individual title. But the two-time major champion has put himself in this position by performing superbly all year.

While Niemann has struggled in the weeks he has not won, Rahm has never finished lower than 11th in a LIV Golf event. There is a good chance that that run continues after the final tournament of the regular season.

And speaking in an interview broadcast during the second round, Bryson DeChambeau suggested that he is in awe of what Rahm has done since making the jump from the PGA Tour.

“I would arguably say Jon’s consistency throughout the entire LIV Golf era for him is possibly the most impressive stat in golf I’ve seen in a long time. He hasn’t been outside the top 11 in every single one of his events,” he said.

“It’s going to be a great battle. Joaco and Jon, they’ve got a lot on their shoulders.”

Depth is definitely a problem for LIV. Nevertheless, there is no denying that Rahm deserves enormous credit for finishing inside the top 10 in all but one of his appearances in the league. And obviously, he has never been lower than tied for 11th on the leaderboard.

Incredibly, that has meant that Rahm is actually ahead of Niemann when it comes to higher finishes this year.

The Torque captain has not yet registered a top 10 in an event he has not won this year. And he finished tied for 23rd in Dallas when Rahm did end up with his worst result of the season.

Niemann has unquestionably been LIV’s biggest success story, with seven wins under his belt in total. However, it is no surprise that Rahm’s peers seem to be blown away by what he has accomplished since joining the league.
