Martin Kaymer has predicted what’s going to happen to Xander Schauffele over the next three days after his record-breaking opening round at the PGA Championship.
Schauffele’s nine-under-par 62 was the lowest round ever recorded at the PGA Championship and also the course record at Valhalla.
Furthermore, the American became the first person to shoot two rounds of 62 in major championships.
Kaymer is six shots back on three-under-par and was one of the better-performing LIV Golf players on day one.
Speaking after the conclusion of his first 18, Kaymer has reacted to Schauffele’s remarkable start.
Here’s what Martin Kaymer has said about Xander Schauffele

Kaymer has revealed that he doesn’t see the American running away with the tournament over the coming days.
“There’s always one or two guys that shoot those low numbers, but they don’t really run away,” he said.
The German went on to reveal when he intends to make up ground at Valhalla.
He added: “They don’t really run away with 8 or 9 under par. So they’re going to have a ‘decent’ day on the next three days, and that’s the day where I need to keep up or make up some ground.”

Along with Scottie Scheffler, Schauffele is arguably the most in-form player in the world right now.
Tee to green, the 30-year-old is near faultless.
However, questions remain over his ability to finish the job late into tournaments.
Last week’s Wells Fargo Championship was the perfect example. He couldn’t deal with Rory McIlroy’s scoring rate and was particularly poor around the greens.
If he stays in contention come the final round, all eyes will be on Schauffele’s ability to fend off the world’s best and up his game when it really matters.
