Brooks Koepka might consider himself one of the star names at the Irish Open this week but his quest to win has come to an abrupt end with a nightmare second round.

Koepka went into the week in a bullish mood after missing out on the Ryder Cup and was very much in line to make the weekend at the very least after an opening round 71.

However, when it came to round two, things couldn’t have gone much worse for the five-time major winner.

Instead of making a run and building some momentum, Koepka suffered one of the most disastrous rounds of his career.

Brooks Koepka suffers embarrassing second round at the Irish Open

For many, Brooks Koepka was among the big names going into the Irish Open who stood a genuine chance of winning.

However, he’s had the ultimate nightmare really and ended up in a situation that is bordering on embarrassing.

Koepka shot six over par for the front nine at The K Club to all but rule himself out of making the cut, never mind being in contention to win.

Then, coming down the back stretch, Koepka couldn’t find enough improvement, finishing with a score of 80 overall to leave him seven over par and well beyond the cut mark.

For the LIV Golf star, it’s simply not good enough in a field where have at least being among the better players.

Brooks Koepka’s worst ever rounds

There’s no other way of saying it really but shooting 80 for a player with the quality of Brooks Koepka is just not acceptable.

In fact, it’s not far off being his worst ever round of golf.

Luckily for him, a birdie at the last prevented him from matching that worst ever round at Bay Hill in 2020, where he shot a dismal 81.

Koepka then matched that 81 at The Players in 2022, where he struggled once again, highlighting just how erratic his game can be at times with his big hitting.

Thankfully for Koepka, his late birdie on 18 at the K Club has prevented a hat-trick of 81s but after missing out on the Ryder Cup, all this does is further justify why he wasn’t picked.
