To say that LIV Golf remains divisive in the game of golf would probably be an understatement with the league’s fourth season now underway.

Of course, LIV Golf has turned the golfing world upside down over the last few years. It created a split in the game which continues to this day.

Some clearly enjoy what LIV offer, while Rory McIlroy said he has benefitted from the league starting up as purses on the PGA Tour have risen sharply. But it is far from the finished product.

The depth on LIV simply is not there, with many of the same names towards the bottom of the leaderboard at each event. Meanwhile, it was notable that LIV made no marquee signings ahead of the 2025 season.

Brooks Koepka makes admission about the development of LIV Golf

With that, there are always discussions amongst fans about which players may want to return to the PGA Tour. Some felt Brooks Koepka was ready to come back after he looked completely disinterested during last year’s Team Championship.

Obviously, Koepka is not someone who is ever particularly emotional on the course. So it was not at all surprising that he has remained on LIV. But that does not mean that he was entirely happy with the direction the league was going in.

Speaking on The Joe Pomp Show, Koepka was asked what he would change about LIV, and it seems that he is now a lot more positive.

“Yeah, we’re four years in, it’s just getting its feet wet and figuring out what direction they want to go. Obviously, there’s been a lot of change in hires and people in LIV. Now having Scott [O’Neil], I think Scott’s a great guy, I think he can lead LIV right where I think it needs to be, or where it should be – because we are behind to be quite fair, behind where we should be,” he said.

“From bringing sponsors in to doing things, hitting the international market, the US market. [The new TV deal] definitely helps, but I think we have to take that and expand it and grow it. We’re not on FOX every single day we’re playing so we’ve still got room to grow. We got the right people in charge now, and I’m excited to see where it goes.”

Scott O’Neil has already faced ridicule since joining LIV Golf

Whatever you think of him, Greg Norman appears to have been the ideal person to act as the face of LIV in its first few years. He is one of the greatest players golf has had, and he was not at all afraid to upset people with his comments and his actions.

But LIV needed to move in a different direction. O’Neil has an impressive background. At the very least, it gives the PIF a little more leverage in talks with the PGA Tour as they can argue that they will be ready to stay on their own path if an agreement is not forthcoming.

O’Neil was ridiculed after claiming that LIV is the only way to watch the best players outside of the majors. But as time goes on, it starts to become clear that he probably had other reasons for making such a bizarre statement.

LIV is never going to win everyone over. But they will continue to remain a serious player in the golfing world if they manage to keep their best players and biggest stars happy, with Koepka definitely one of those.
