Brian Harman is widely considered to be one of the best putters on the PGA Tour.

Back in July 2023, it was Brian Harman‘s extraordinary putting that enabled him to win The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

The 38-year-old enjoyed a successful 2025 PGA Tour season after getting back inside the winner’s circle following his victory at the Valero Texas Open.

However, Harman missed out on making the US Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black, and that was a huge disappointment to him.

While the American is certainly not the most popular of players, it’s impossible not to respect him for the courage, fight and determination he shows on the golf course.

How much does this tricky shot add to your scorecard every week?

He has undoubtedly made the absolute most of his talent.

Brian Harman insists AimPoint method doesn’t make sense

It’s always interesting to pick the American’s brains about the art of putting.

While the 2023 Open champion doesn’t possess the most orthodox of putting techniques, he certainly holes his fair share of putts.

Harman spoke on the Mark Immelman Podcast about what makes him so good on the greens.

And the 2023 Open champion delivered his take on the players on Tour who use the AimPoint method.

He explained: I always joke with the guys that do the AimPoint, they’re like, ‘you can’t trust your eyes’. I’m like, ‘well how do you know where to stand’?

You see it first right, like you look with your eyes, you already know what the putt is doing. You’re just using your feet to get it all straight in your head.

Like, you have to look. You can’t just go and stand in a random place, you’ve already looked at it, you’ve seen it with your eyes.

Your eyes are the most important thing you have when you’re putting.

Harman makes a great point here. Those who use the AimPoint method read the green with their eyes first and that enables them to get into the correct position to go through their routine.

AimPoint seems to be a method that confirms what you actually see, according to Harman at least.

Brian Harman’s ‘putting secret’ behind his Open Championship win

When speaking to reporters at the Open in 2023, Harman lifted the lid on his ‘secret’ training aid which helped him turn around his putting.

He said: “I found this – it’s a silly looking mirror, where it’s got like a little better release pattern.

I was just kind of cutting my putts too much. I spent a lot of time just feeling the ball, almost hitting like a baby draw with my putter, and it’s been really, really good the last month or so.

“There was a time middle of this year to where we were seriously thinking about going to the bullpen and pulling out something different. It’s been a good putter, but she’s been misbehaving a lot this year.”

Well, the putting aid clearly worked, as Harman ended the week at Hoylake ranked first in strokes gained putting (+11.57).

He also made an incredible 58 out of 59 putts from inside 10 feet. Perhaps Harman’s ‘silly little mirror’ wasn’t quite so silly after all.
