One of the most remarkable shots of Tiger Woods’ career came during a match with Brandt Snedeker at the 2019 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
Brandt Snedeker actually won the match 2&1. However, once again, most were talking about Tiger Woods after he managed to find the green with the most outrageous chip shot from under a bush which he had to play left-handed and on one knee.
Even Woods could not help himself from producing a wry smile as he went to mark his ball. He managed to save par and pile the pressure on Snedeker, who must have been certain that he was about to go two up.
Of course, as soon as Woods hit the shot, many fans would have chuckled at the thought of ever doubting him. The 15-time major champion has produced so many of the most incredible shots anyone has seen.
Brandt Snedeker suggests what many do not understand about Tiger Woods
But it turns out that there is another part of Woods’ game which has impressed Snedeker even more.
Speaking to 5 Clubs following the announcement that he will captain the US Presidents Cup team at Medinah next year, Snedeker was asked to pick out the best shot he ever saw Woods hit.
“I think what people don’t understand about how good Tiger was, it wasn’t the great shots, it was his ability to hit the correct shot all the time,” he said.

“What was so impressive about him, I remember playing with him at Cog Hill my second year on tour where he ended up winning by nine shots in 2009, and his ability to hit a five iron or a seven iron or a three iron into the middle of the green with the correct shape to tough pins was just second to none. His ability and his discipline to hit the correct shot at the right time was unmatched by anybody I’ve ever seen.
“Yes, he has the wow shots, don’t get me wrong, he hit shots that nobody else could hit. But I think what was more impressive to me at least was his ability to stand up – I’ll use 2019 Masters as an example of his shot into 12, it was an easy shot, it was a nine iron, but his ability to hit the correct shot at the correct moment all the time was what was so impressive to me.”
How Snedeker reacted to Tiger Woods’ miraculous recovery shot at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play
It is fascinating to hear Snedeker’s view of that shot from six years ago. It seems that it almost left him too flustered to think about the putt he had left.
Snedeker noted after his round that he thought that Woods had actually knocked it closer from under the bush than he had and they ended up playing out of order.
“Waiting to be two up on 10 tee. I thought it was over. I thought he was wasting his time over there. It’s just the kind of stuff he pulls. I don’t know what he did. I don’t know how he got that up-and-down. Nobody else would probably even try to hit it. And somehow he hits it out to five feet and probably should have been me away, I was probably first to putt on that second putt,” he said.
“I told him on the next tee, I’m might have rethink how I do match play, because I played that second shot according to you being in the junk. And I actually had a harder par it turned out than he did.”
So many of the PGA Tour’s players can probably hit some of the same iconic shots Woods produced throughout his career. However, as Snedeker notes, it was the regularity with which Woods made exactly the shot which was required which separated him from his peers.
