You have to feel slightly for Patrick Fishburn as he took the lead at The RSM Classic with a second round of 64, with many more focused on the players around the 125 mark in the FedEx Cup standings this week in Georgia.
Unfortunately for Wesley Bryan, it appears that he will miss out on keeping his PGA Tour card. Bryan started the week in 125th place, but a turbulent back nine on Friday saw the 2017 RBC Heritage winner miss the cut. He is now projected to finish 127th in the standings.
Elsewhere, Joel Dahmen has kept his hopes of keeping his card alive. Dahmen was 124th, but is now projected to finish 126th. Unlike Bryan however, Dahmen has got a golden chance over the weekend to move himself up the standings having made the cut.
Dahmen posted a second round of 68, making two birdies in his final five holes to get in. He had a tester of a putt on the last to make the cut, but the 37-year-old was able to roll it in.
Brandel Chamblee suggests what fans may not realise about players trying to keep their PGA Tour cards
And speaking on Golf Channel, Brandel Chamblee provided an insight into how difficult the challenge is for the likes of Dahmen and Bryan – explaining why it is much tougher than it is for those battling at the top of the leaderboard.
“It’s the hardest thing to do, because everybody around you’s nervous. And the hardest thing to do is just detach from that and go, you know what, life’s going to be alright, I’m going to go out there and give it my all, but play with a certain freedom,” he said.

“It’s really, really hard to do; it’s harder, and I know people won’t believe this, but it is harder than trying to win a golf tournament, because when you’re trying to win a golf tournament, you’re obviously playing great golf and you’re obviously thinking great.
“When you’re on the cusp of losing your tour card, you’re obviously struggling. You obviously haven’t been in the right place mentally. And to try and overcome all that, and play the best golf when you’re not, it’s extraordinarily difficult.”
How the FedEx Cup standings look at the halfway mark at The RSM Classic
There is likely to be plenty of change to the standings over the next couple of days. As things stand, Daniel Berger is one player on course to jump from below the cut line into the top 125. Michael Thornbjornsen will also leap into the top 125 from 138th as things stand, but the youngster is already exempt for next year.
Five of the 10 players between 120th and 130th in the field this week have missed the cut. So there is a great chance for Dahmen to get the job done over the weekend. But having come so close to missing the cut, he will surely be taking absolutely nothing for granted.
