The PGA Tour could be set to make one big change, and Brandel Chamblee is not happy about it whatsoever.
Chamblee is one of the most straight-talking analysts in the game and it is always incredibly interesting to listen to his views on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
Over the past couple of years, Chamblee’s criticisms of LIV Golf have been well-documented.
However, it’s not too often that the outspoken American takes aim at the PGA Tour.

In fact, Chamblee is sometimes blinded by his bias towards the PGA Tour, and often refuses to see any faults whatsoever with the Tour’s setup.
That has all changed this week, though.
Brandel Chamblee reacts to ‘worrying’ PGA Tour development
It’s very clear to see that there will be big changes on the PGA Tour moving forward.
Brian Rolapp took over as the new PGA Tour CEO in 2025 and he is quite obviously not afraid of upsetting the apple cart.
CEO Rolapp has refused to rule out condensing PGA Tour field sizes moving forward.
And Chamblee thinks Rolapp has got it all wrong in that regard.
He said: “Few sport’s stories trump the underdog story. The tour should be fighting to expand fields, not reduce them.“
How true that is, and well said Brandel.
The more the PGA Tour reduces its field sizes, the less likely it will be for talented young players or journeymen pros to earn their cards.
Isn’t that the complete opposite of what a meritocracy is?

Chamblee spoke on the Trey Wingo podcast earlier this week.
He was asked to give his thoughts on some of the changes that the PGA Tour could make imminently.

And the golf analyst highlighted exactly why he has such a problem with the idea of smaller field sizes.
“I am a little worried about some of the things that I hear Brian Rolapp and his team may be doing,“ Chamblee admitted.
“You know, making the schedule smaller, that’s at least in my view, you know, I just don’t see how that’s the best way to make the Tour more about merit and less about profit.
“I think you need to maximize merit while you’re maximizing profit.“
I am in total agreement with Chamblee.
Reducing the field sizes will just make the PGA Tour more of a closed shop, so to speak.
And the worst thing about that is that they will then start to become everything they profess to hate by following LIV Golf’s model of more condensed fields.
