Brandel Chamblee is not shy when it comes to voicing his opinions on the current goings on in the wide world of professional golf.

Chamblee has made a career for himself after his playing days ended as a hard-hitting analyst whose no-nonsense opinions both resonate with and anger golf fans at the same time.

Over the past few years, Chamblee has been an outspoken critic of LIV Golf, and his stance on the Saudi-backed golf league’s veracity as a professional tour has never wavered in all fairness to him.

However, the former PGA Tour player’s focus is on The Open Championship right now.

He is over in Britain playing some golf ahead of covering the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush next week.

And Chamblee is desperate to ask The R&A one question in particular.

Brandel Chamblee has a question for the R&A ahead of The Open

The Open Championship is now just eight days away from starting.

But Chamblee’s attention right now is on the magnificent Trump Turnberry.

The American golf analyst visited the famed golf course on Tuesday, and was mightily impressed by what he saw.

Tom Watson came agonisingly close to winning The Open the last time it was held at Turnberry way back in 2009.

However, the R&A haven’t decided to return since then.

And Chamblee wants to know why.

He said: Played at Turnberry today, where there hasn’t been an Open since 2009. It is arguably the best links course in the whole of the UK and inarguably one of the best courses in the world. Why does it seem that Turnberry is not on the Open rota anymore?

DP World Tour player and former US Amateur champion Richie Ramsay responded to Chamblee, suggesting that it may have something to do with President Donald Trump being the owner of the property:

Make of that what you will.

Paul McGinley offers his take on Turnberry as an Open venue

McGinley and Chamblee often disagree with each other when it comes to hot topics in the golfing world – it is what makes them so good to watch together.

However, this time, both were on the same page when it comes to Turnberry.

McGinley was speaking to Indo Sport, and raved about the famous golf course in South Ayrshire.

He said: I think the best course is Turnberry. And I think it’s a real shame we are not playing it. I know people have a lot of views on Trump but I tell you what, he has made a hell of a job to the work he has done at Turnberry.

The golf course is even better now than it was back in the day when we played. The changes that he has made, the new holes out by the lighthouse are fantastic.

Tom Watson went back there a couple of years ago and he said he hated when he heard that he was going to make some changes to Turnberry with all my history there, but now I have seen it I think it’s better than it’s ever been. I agree with him. It’s a shame it’s not on the rota.

Hopefully the R&A make the decision to bring The Open back to Turnberry at some point in the very near future.
