Golf commentator Brandel Chamblee has given his honest thoughts on Bryson DeChambeau’s current world golf ranking after the American’s dramatic US Open victory at Pinehurst No.2.

DeChambeau has been electric in 2024’s major championships, finishing in the top ten at Augusta before placing second at the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

The American has admitted that huge improvements have been made over recent months, and the 30-year-old is now among the favourites for the year’s final major championship at Royal Troon.

However, DeChambeau will first appear in LIV Golf’s Andalucia event before heading to Scotland for The Open.

LIV Golf players have suffered in recent times due to the fact that there are no OWGR points counting in the breakaway league’s events.

As a result, some of the world’s best players have dramatically fallen down the pecking order.

DeChambeau, despite his red-hot form, is only ranking ninth in the world. Now, Chamblee has shared his thoughts on whether the American’s ranking is correct.

He told NBC: “The world rankings don’t incorporate what these guys are doing on LIV, but there’s a site called data golf that does a really good job of cross-correlating how well these guys are playing against the competition.

“So there are only a couple of guys in the top ten in the world on LIV, including Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau.”

Chamblee claimed that DeChambeau’s failure to dominate on LIV has made it hard to assess where his ranking should be.

He added: “Bryson DeChambeau is clearly having the best year on major championships, but he’s playing week in and week out on LIV and isn’t dominating. So it’s tough to really put into perspective if he’s not playing week in and week out against the very best – and that’s the dilemma we are all burdened with.”

Data Golf world rankings

As Chamblee mentioned, Data Golf has done an excellent job of assessing the world rankings if LIV Golf events did hold weight.

According to Data Golf’s latest model, DeChambeau sits sixth in the world, three places better off than his official ranking.

The other LIV Golf star in the top ten, Jon Rahm, is only ranked two places better.

However, one significant change involves Tyrrell Hatton. The Englishman, currently 22nd in the world, is rated at 13th in Data Golf’s standings.

Evidently, the sooner OWGR points are granted to LIV Golf events, the better. Whether people like it or not, the breakaway tour isn’t going anywhere.
