With 2024 coming to a close, the golfing world and those involved are looking back on another big year in the sport and Brandel Chamblee has delivered a very hot take on world number one, Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler had a remarkable year with nine wins and an Olympic Gold medal as he continues to blaze a trail in the game of golf.

With Tiger Woods even acknowledging Scheffler comparisons to himself, the world number one is very much doing a lot right as we head into 2025.

However, for all the plaudits coming Scheffler’s way, golf pundit Brandel Chamblee has offered up a pretty controversial opinion of the world’s top player.

Brandel Chamblee calls Scottie Scheffler ‘boring’ in 2024 assessment

Chamblee is never afraid of voicing an opinion on the game of golf and he’s been on X giving us all a detailed breakdown of his thoughts on golf in 2024.

Chamblee touches on a number of subjects but remarkably, when it comes to Scottie Scheffler, the golf pundit has claimed Scheffler is actually ‘boring.

“3) Scottie Scheffler is boring – Although Tiger Woods is still playing some, in his increasing absence, professional golf is accused of lacking compelling storylines and players,” Chamblee wrote.

“I would argue that this is analogous to a very good comedian accused of not being all that funny after having to follow the late Robin Williams on stage. His genius, as well as Tiger’s, was and is an almost impossible act to follow.

“As we grapple with the post-Tiger era, I think it’s important to remember that the game waned after the retirement of Bobby Jones in 1930 and when Arnold Palmer’s victories declined in the 60s, but in each case stars of unimaginable talent came along who filled those voids.”

Boring golf is winning golf

This is an odd take for Chamblee to throw into the mix here, especially as he doesn’t really address why he believes Scheffler to be boring in his comments.

The nod towards Tiger Woods and the potential decline of golf is interesting and probably correct.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 in numbers
1 Major victory
9Tournament wins
16Top ten finishes
63Million dollars earned in prize money
68.01PGA Tour scoring average

However, if Scottie Scheffler is boring, then boring golf might be the new way to win. Scheffler’s record speaks for itself and while he might not be the most exciting or marketable athlete off the course, his ability on it is unmatched right now.

Going into 2025, Scheffler is likely to take another ‘boring’ year with both hands if it means winning as much as he did in 2024.
