It is remarkable just how the perception of Rory McIlroy’s chances of success in the majors has completely flipped following his victory at The Masters earlier this month.

Golf fans must have felt that they could almost see the burden being lifted from Rory McIlroy‘s shoulders after holing the putt which secured The Masters, won his first major in 11 years, and wrapped up the career grand slam. It was no surprise that McIlroy could do nothing other than collapse to the ground.

The question now seems to be just how many majors will McIlroy win. Before 2025, many may have doubted whether he would win a fifth. Now, it seems that there is little stopping the 35-year-old from challenging for double figures.

Certainly, what helps is that next month’s PGA Championship takes place at Quail Hollow.

Brandel Chamblee backs Rory McIlroy for unprecedented success on the PGA Tour this year

McIlroy has won four times at Quail Hollow over the years, with the course usually hosting what will now be known as the Truist Championship. Of course, it was the sight of his first PGA Tour victory.

And not only does Brandel Chamblee believe that he is the favourite to win the second major of the year, he believes that McIlroy is well-placed to achieve something for the first time in his career in 2025.

“It will be hard to look anywhere else but Rory [for the PGA Championship]. He leads the tour in everything that you would want to be leading the tour in going into a major championship, having completed the career grand slam at The Masters, I’m sure he goes in there and he’s like ‘this is my time, this is my year’,” he told The Favorite Chamblee.

“It’s his time to have a year like Scottie Scheffler had. Rory has never had a five-plus win season on the PGA Tour, as good as he’s been, as consistent as he’s been, it’s hard to believe he hasn’t had a five-plus win season on the PGA Tour. 2014, he won two major championships, but five-plus win season with The Players, with The Masters. He’s set up this year to win five, six, seven, eight times if he runs through the tape.”

The best PGA Tour seasons of Rory McIlroy’s career

McIlroy will probably feel disappointed should his year end with no more wins. Having three under his belt already is remarkable, and only leaves him two behind where Scheffler was at the same stage 12 months ago.

One more victory would see him tie his best ever PGA Tour season, which came back in 2012.

It would certainly come as no surprise to some if McIlroy’s fourth win of the year did come at the PGA Championship – if not sooner.

And with the pressure now largely off in the majors, it really feels as though McIlroy may have some of his most successful years still ahead of him.
