Billy Horschel is certainly the biggest American name fans of the DP World Tour can rely on to feature in a number of their events each year, with the 37-year-old currently fourth in the Race to Dubai ahead of the season finale.
Billy Horschel has made no secret of his love for playing on the DP World Tour over the years. He won the BMW PGA Championship for a second time earlier this season, beating Rory McIlroy in a play-off at Wentworth.
At the time, Horschel appeared to prove why Jim Furyk had made a mistake not selecting him for the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal. Horschel was overlooked before producing some outstanding golf amidst the Surrey pines – making seven straight birdies at one stage on Saturday. He had also finished second at The Open Championship before that.
In fact, Horschel is arguably enjoying the best spell of his career right now. He is inside the world’s top 20 and finished in the top 10 at two majors in 2024. And perhaps he would put that success down to being prepared to play globally.
Billy Horschel shares the impact playing on the DP World Tour has had on his career
Speaking ahead of the DP World Tour Championship, Horschel shared the impact that playing on the European Tour has had on him personally and professionally.

“Oh, by far a better golfer. I mean, I think I’ve improved my game in conditions like playing in The Open Championship and going and playing Dunhill and doing that more often. I’ve become a lot better of a person, I guarantee you that, by having to understand different cultures. Try to communicate with people that may not speak English as well or I may not speak their language as well, so you try to communicate that way,” he said.
“Listen, it’s made me a better person all around, as well as in my golf game. That’s why I said I think it’s better for people to travel because you go grow as a person and it does help your golf game but I think the biggest thing is you do grow as a person.”
How Horschel has fared in 2024
It will be interesting to see what events Horschel plays in 2025 as you would imagine that his focus will largely be on making the Ryder Cup team for Bethpage Black. He is yet to make his debut in the competition and will know how difficult it is going to be to make the lineup given the depth the American team has.
| Event | Finish |
| US PGA Championship | T-8th |
| US Open | T-41st |
| Scottish Open | T-106th |
| The Open Championship | T-2nd |
| BMW PGA Championship | 1st |
| Alfred Dunhill Links Championship | T-72nd |
| Open de France | T-96th |
Obviously, some DP World Tour events are not going to count towards qualification. But they will provide Horschel a chance to send a message to Keegan Bradley, particularly if he is relying on a potential captain’s pick.
He will not want to burn himself out in case he does make the team for New York. But clearly, a good captain will appreciate the lengths Horschel is prepared to go to to make the team.
