Billy Horschel is in contention to win at the Wyndham Championship going into the final rounds today.
Horschel carded a solid enough round of two under to sit just two behind leader, Matt Kuchar, who is on 12 under for the tournament.
Horschel came into the tournament in good form and as we know, came close to winning The Open just a few weeks back.
Unfortunately, a stunning final 18 from Xander Schauffele and a couple of errors from Horschel himself ensured he finished two behind his fellow American.
Horschel has yet to win a major. And clearly, it’s something he wants to do.
Billy Horschel explains his feelings after losing out on The Open to Xander Schauffele
Speaking in his flash interview immediately after his third round yesterday, Horschel was asked how he’d got over the disappointment of not winning The Open.

And Horschel admitted that while he spent the night thinking about it, he soon moved on.
“I mean I walked off of Royal Troon obviously disappointed I didn’t win but I held my head up high cos I played well and I did everything I could. Yes, I missed a short putt and made a bad swing at 10 but I didn’t ‘lose’ the golf tournament,” Horschel said.
“I played a really good round but Xander played unbelievable, you’ve got to tip your cap to him. To shoot 64 in the final round of a major is impressive.
“I was disappointed but I had a 6am flight the next morning, didn’t sleep at all, I was still wired about the entire week and the opportunity I had.
“But I got over it very quickly, I just want to get back to having the opportunity to win tournaments.”
Horschel will win a major eventually
There are so many good players on the PGA and LIV Tours that you cannot explicitly say a player is definitely going to win a major tournament.
However, you get the feeling that Billy Horschel has the game and the mindset to eventually get it done.
He’s won big tournaments in the past and got himself in contention before. So now, it’s just a case of getting over the line and winning.
The Open was disappointing as on another weekend, Schauffele might not have been in the form he was and we’d have seen a shootout between Horschel and Justin Rose.
2025, then, could be the year for the popular American.
