Rory McIlroy’s partnership with Harry Diamond is one of the most well-known in golf as they seek to win that fifth major title.
McIlroy and Diamond are often under the spotlight due to the sheer presence and ability of the Northern Irishman.
Indeed, Diamond was criticised when McIlroy blew the US Open this year, albeit Diamond was also defended by LIV Golf caddie Chris Rice in getting unnecessary criticism.
Of course, most fans of golf want to see McIlroy win again on the biggest stages. And one man who knows him well, is Matt Fitzpatrick’s current caddie, Billy Foster.
And speaking about Rory and Harry’s relationship, Foster has suggested that the eye being constantly on McIlroy makes Diamond’s job harder.

Billy Foster gives honest verdict on Rory McIlroy and Harry Diamond partnership
Answering a question from a fan on if Rory McIlroy wouldn’t have finished second as much with Foster on the bag, the experienced Foster answered in good humoured fashion, with some more serious explanation on the pressure McIlroy faces.
“There’s one thing I will say if I was caddying for Rory, and it’s he wouldn’t have finished second as many times as that. He’d have tied 18th with me caddying,” Foster said.
“Nah look, Harry (Diamond) is a good lad. He gets an unfair rap. The problem is, you see every shot Rory McIlroy hits. You don’t see Poulter, or Fitz or Ernie, you don’t see them do you?.”
“He’s a good player in his own right Harry and a nice kid and yeah he does get an unfair rap. And Rory’s there every week isn’t he? Unbelievable player. His time will come again.”
Pressure on McIlroy is Tiger-esque at times
There can’t be another player in golf who has the pressure on his shoulders that Rory McIlroy does in certain events.
Indeed, when going into the Masters, McIlroy is immediately in the spotlight and the questions of if he can finally win a green jacket are pretty much constant.
For Harry Diamond, as Foster says here, the pressure of getting each call correct is intensified further and unfortunately for him, he has had some harsh words come his way as a result.
But, as Foster says, Diamond knows his stuff and if he’s good enough for Rory on a personal level, then he’s surely doing something right.
If and when that fifth major finally drops for McIlroy, all this sort of talk could go away completely.
