Billy Foster has revealed what he has told Matt Fitzpatrick about how he believes he will perform at the US Open this week with the Englishman struggling for form in 2024.
Matt Fitzpatrick will be looking for his second major title and second US Open crown when the world’s best head to Pinehurst No. 2 this week, with the 29-year-old winning at Brookline back in 2022.
That result confirmed the Englishman had taken his place as one of the very best on the planet, and he would follow it with two victories in 2023. However, his start to 2024 has been a lot more underwhelming.
Fitzpatrick has not finished higher than fifth so far this season, missing the cut at the PGA Championship last month. So he may not be the tip for many fans as the field prepare for one of the toughest tests in the game in the coming days.
Billy Foster shares what he’s told Matt Fitzpatrick ahead of US Open
Interestingly, The Telegraph reports that the team around him picked up on the frustrations he was previously feeling about his game.
But his caddie Billy Foster believes that he is heading in the right direction to put himself in contention this week.

“He’s turned a corner now,” he said.
“I’ve told Matt that I don’t think he’ll be that far away at the US Open, so to get his chops off the floor.”
Englishman needs to improve in almost every area to succeed this week
Pinehurst is such a thorough test of a player’s game, with it seemingly very easy to leave yourself in trouble off the tee, and then struggle to hit the greens. And of course, missing the green is so much more significant than it is at most other golf courses.
Fitzpatrick is hardly excelling in any particular area so far this season, although he is in the top 20 for driving accuracy on the PGA Tour this year.
But crucially, he knows what it takes to win a US Open, producing an unbelievable shot to virtually clinch victory on the final hole two years ago.
