St. Andrews links is one of the best – if not the best – golf course in the world, so picking a favourite hole from the legendary track is a tough one.

St. Andrews is known as the home of golf and most players in the world would pick a win at the old course above any other on tour.

Famous names like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros have all won at St. Andrews to write their names into the history books.

Of course, St. Andrews is not everyone’s number one and Rick Shiels has previously spoken of his preference for Augusta National over the historic Scottish course.

But for the caddies and players, St. Andrews remains one of the best around and according to Matt Fitzpatrick’s current caddy, Billy Foster, one ‘hole’ stands out from the rest.

Billy Foster picks his favourite hole at St. Andrews

Speaking on the latest episode of the 19th Uncut podcast, Foster was asked what his favourite hole was at St. Andrews.

And in classic Foster fashion, he opted for something a bit different in his response.

“What hole am I choosing? At St. Andrews links? You know, it would be a toss up,” Foster said.

“I really like the 12th. It’s a classic hole where you can drive the green or there’s cross bunkers at like 256 which if you get a cold wind, you’re not carrying. You need to go way right, or way left.

“13th I really like. You can bang it down the sixth fairway or shape it down the right but the bunkers down the middle are dead. But undoubtedly, my favourite hole at St. Andrews, can only be…the 19th!

“The Jigger Inn is the home of golf, home of slurping, and there’s been so many great times at this golf tournament where you go in and bump into people you don’t bump into every day.”

Stories of St. Andrews will live long in the memory

While winning golf tournaments and winning at St. Andrews remains the pinnacle for many a player, the history and legend of the place in general are what make it so special.

As Foster talks about here with stories from the Jigger Inn, it’s about sharing and making memories with people who you might not normally come across.

Later in the interview, Foster talks of people like Michael Vaughan and Hugh Grant being in the famous old pub.

And at the end of the day, win or lose, it’s all about making those memories and embracing the privileged position of being involved in PGA Tour events.
