Anthony Kim has revealed whether he was actually aware of Tiger Woods winning The Masters in 2019 before he made his return to professional golf earlier this year.
There has been a huge amount of intrigue surrounding Anthony Kim. He almost became more famous after what appeared to be the end of his professional career.
Kim had won on the PGA Tour and played brilliantly for Team USA at the 2008 Ryder Cup. However, a decline in his form and a number of injuries led to Kim walking away from the game. His last PGA Tour event came in 2012.
There were all kinds of stories about what Kim was up to in the 12 years away from the sport. And we probably will never know for sure what exactly happened to the 38-year-old during his hiatus. But it seems that he had absolutely no interest in golf while away.
Kim has returned to the sport by signing with LIV Golf this year. And he has shown signs of progress as the rounds have gone on.
Anthony Kim shares whether he knew about Tiger Woods winning the 2019 Masters
Speaking in his press conference ahead of LIV Golf Miami, Kim noted that he was only made aware this week that Brooks Koepka had won the US Open in back to back years.
With that, Kim was asked whether he had been aware of Tiger Woods winning the 2019 Masters as it was happening.

“Where I was in my life, I really wasn’t focused on golf. I definitely heard it happened,” he said.
“Going through some of the things I’ve gone through in my life, I wasn’t focused on golf, I didn’t care about if somebody won a golf tournament. So many other big issues going on in the world that golf is such a small part of it. Obviously, for all of us it gives us such a great platform to be able to speak to a large group of people. But, at the same time, it’s just golf.”
Another remarkable comeback story
What is strange to think is that Kim is only 10 years younger than Woods. Woods is certainly coming towards the end of his career at the top of the sport. And it feels like a special occasion whenever he tees it up.
Kim missed out on what could have been the peak years of his career, which is sad. But it is fantastic to see that he appears to be in a much better place in his life now.
Love LIV or hate it, it is brilliant to see that he has got a platform to relaunch his career. And hopefully, he can compete at the top end of the leaderboard again in the future.
Woods’ win in 2019 should encourage most golfers that so much is possible in the right circumstances. Perhaps Kim can do similar with LIV now that he is back in the sport.
