Justin Thomas’ quest to win the US Open came crashing down as he missed the cut for a third straight year with two miserable rounds of 76 at Oakmont.
Thomas signed in at the clubhouse for +12 and that was never going to be good enough, despite the cut line looking around the +7 mark all day.
It was disappointing for Thomas as he has actually played well in 2025 and got back to winning ways at the RBC Heritage.

However, his form in the majors has not quite been there and having missed a third successive cut at US Open, Thomas cut a frustrated figure.
Indeed, speaking to the media after coming off at 18, Thomas was very much dejected with his game.

Justin Thomas frustrated after missing yet another US Open cut
For a player with the quality of Justin Thomas, missing three cuts in a row at the US Open is simply not good enough.
Right now, he’ll know that his game has been in a good place but ultimately, these are the events that really matter.
Indeed, that came across from Thomas as he spoke to the press as he admitted he just wasn’t good enough.
“It sucks. I’m frustrated because I feel like I should be playing way better in majors, but I haven’t, so clearly I need to do something differently. It’s easy to be bummed or not too positive at the moment, but I’ve had a really solid year and played really well,” Thomas commented.”
Pressed on why he scored so badly, Thomas admitted that he hadn’t felt too bad but ultimately, he wasn’t sharp enough.
“Just wasn’t sharp at all,” he continued. “I felt like I really didn’t play that bad yesterday; I had four tee balls that were 50-50 in the air of being in the fairway or not, and all four of them were not, and played those holes 5-over, so that can happen out there.
“I was very far from sharp and just didn’t play well. Oakmont is right in front of you. You kind of know what you’re getting here. It’s tough, and you can’t fake it around here and not play well and expect good things to happen.”
Justin Thomas cannot get too downhearted despite US Open troubles
Oakmont is a tough golf course and there are a whole host of world class players packing their bags and going home after two rounds.
Thomas is one of those and he’ll rightfully be annoyed but in the main, he has every reason to be cheerful after what has been an excellent 2025 in the main for him so far.
A win at the RBC, three more second places, and another two top tens on top of that mean it’s been a much improved six months for Thomas compared to previous years.
Yes, the disappointment of going home early from Oakmont will sting. But with The Open still to come and a Ryder Cup spot to play for, there’s plenty to keep ‘JT’ going right now.
