Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston reveals why he ended up ‘shaking a tree’ after a night on the beers with John Daly

John Daly is well known for being one of the more eccentric characters in golf and Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston has confirmed just what can happen on a night out with the American.

Daly, who still plays in the odd event on the PGA Tour, is very much considered an anomaly when it comes to the ‘norms’ of being a pro golfer.

The 58-year-old is known to enjoy some of the finer things in life and is very much open about some of his famous nights out.

Of course, unless you’ve been there and done it, it’s hard to imagine what might happen with a party-loving millionaire golfer out on the town.

But thankfully for us mere golf mortals, DP World Tour star Andrew Johnston has offered a snippet into life out on the beers with Daly.

Speaking on the Life on Tour podcast, Johnson delved into a whole manner of memories from being a professional golfer.

And when he got onto golf legend John Daly, Johnston shared a hilarious tale from a night out.

“We got a chat in and I was having a beer, and he was like, ‘we’ll get a bucket of these beers.’ And he was obviously straight on whisky,” Johnston said.

“And he was like ‘look, go back to the hotel and come meet me and we’ll carry on. I remember sitting there… and he ordered like two large whiskeys. And he’s got the can of coke on the side. As the waiter put them down, [Daly] went, ‘can we order two more?’

“Next thing, I’m in my pants, and I’m shaking a tree, and then I’m jumping in the pool, and I’m like, ‘he seems OK! I’m not, he seems OK!'”

“And I wake up and I was like ‘what happened?’ And my missus at the time was like, ‘yea you stripped down to your pants, and you were shaking this bush for some reason, and you kind of jumped in the pool.’”

Memories to last a lifetime

Much like any player can’t say no to playing any sort of round with Tiger Woods, most players on the TOUR will not say no to a night out with John Daly if he asks.

For Johnston, while he’s had some fine memories on the golf course, this sort of experience will also live long in the memory.

As for Daly, well, he will forever be remembered as a legend of the game not only for his on-course talent, but for how he’s lived his life following his success.
