While golf fans have had the opportunity to see plenty of Tiger Woods in the opening months of the year, they are still awaiting the moment the 15-time major champion tees it up in a tournament for the first time in 2025.

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods playing in a tournament has become a rarity at this stage of his career. Most would have long retired had their body dealt with the same punishment that Woods’ has done over the last 15 years.

Woods played in the four majors in 2024, while he also started the Genesis Invitational before withdrawing. And after missing the cut at The Open Championship, there appeared to be a feeling that Woods needed to play a lot more if he was going to return to being at all competitive.

He was not ready to play the Hero World Challenge in December, but he has been a regular fixture in the debut season of TGL.

The number of starts Tiger Woods will make in 2025 predicted

Sadly, Woods’ mother passed away shortly before the Genesis Invitational this year. And understandably, the 49-year-old decided that he was not in the right place to compete at Torrey Pines. With that, there has been a question mark over which tournaments he will play in this year.

After the Masters at Augusta National, major championship season includes stops at Quail Hollow, Oakmont and Royal Portrush. Meanwhile, you would imagine that he will intend to feature at the Hero World Challenge in December.

But perhaps fans should not expect a lot more from Woods. Speaking on Dan on Golf, writer Alan Shipnuck suggested that he is hopeful that he should at least intend to play the four majors.

“He seems like he’s moving better, when you see the glimpses at Sam’s soccer games or whatever, just a little lighter on his feet. We’ve seen him swing the club at TGL, it looks pretty solid,” he said.

“Portrush is a tough walk. It’s not flat like the Old Course, there’s a lot of elevation, you go a long way out and way back. There’s a lot of hills and dales, so that’s a tough one. Oakmont’s got a lot of them too really, so I think they’re not the easiest venues for Tiger but he’s not getting any younger. He’s had that most recent back surgery. I think he’s going to show up at five tournaments, whether he completes them are TBD but he’ll be there.”

How Tiger Woods has performed at the 2025 major championship venues during his career

Woods has a bit of history at each of the major championship courses in 2025. Of course, he has a phenomenal record at Augusta National, having won five Masters titles.

He has also won at Quail Hollow, clinching the then Wachovia Championship back in 2007. It was also in 2007 where Woods would finish tied for second to Angel Cabrera at the US Open at Oakmont.

He did however, not have the best experience on his previous visit to Royal Portrush, having missed the cut at the 2019 Open Championship.

At this stage, it would feel like a real win for Woods if he was able to make the cut at any of the four majors over the coming months.
