Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy have been two of the most in-form golfers on the planet this season.

However, the difference is that DeChambeau only has one LIV win to his name, while McIlroy has won three times, including The Players Championship and The Masters.

Last week, the American finished in a tie for second at the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, the Northern Irishman ended up in a tie for 47th position.

DeChambeau and McIlroy have never really seen eye-to-eye, and the tension between the pair was magnified last month at The Masters.

The PGA Tour star didn’t speak to the 31-year-old. That’s his prerogative, of course.

And it seems like the relationship between the two golfers will always be frosty.

However, that doesn’t mean that DeChambeau cannot learn from McIlroy, and vice versa of course.

Bryson DeChambeau told what he must copy from Rory McIlroy

DeChambeau admitted after the PGA Championship that he needs to become more consistent down the stretch at major championships.

But how does he do that? What part of his game is in need of improvement?

Brendon de Jonge thinks he knows exactly what the two-time US Open champion needs to do in order to get better.

The Zimbabwean was speaking on the 5 Clubs PGA Championship review podcast about DeChambeau’s recent struggles during the final rounds of big events.

And he suggested that the American needs to learn from McIlroy, if he is to elevate himself to the next level.

De Jonge said, It’s almost like Bryson needs to sort of take a page out of Rory’s book, what Rory started working on. These controlled iron shots, those three-quarter shots, the off speed stuff, where he can flight the ball down. Bryson’s at the point now where he’s trying to hit everything through the wind, trying to hit it solid enough. That iron game, that is the big deficiency and he’s going to have to tighten up. Especially when wind conditions get like they did over the weekend when that wind was gusting, it was up and down and becomes a little bit more tricky.

DeChambeau was miles off with his irons at the PGA Championship

The 31-year-old American has been in imperious form with the driver this season.

He is longer than any other golfer, on both the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League, and now he has found some real accuracy as well.

He was ranked first off the tee in strokes gained at Quail Hollow last week.

His chipping and putting were pretty solid, but his iron play was quite frankly appalling, especially during the final day.

If DeChambeau is to emulate McIlroy by winning the Grand Slam one day, it is clear to see that he must improve his approach play into greens.

And a good place to start for him would be to figure out a way to knock down his iron shots by imparting less speed onto his golf ball.
