Seve Ballesteros has gone down in golfing folklore, having achieved stunning success during his phenomenal career.

Ballesteros won five major championship titles; three at The Open Championship and two at The Masters.

The legendary Spanish player won nine times on the PGA Tour overall, having joined the tour back in 1984.

Ballesteros was also a key figure for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup throughout his career, having also shone on the European Tour.

Phil Mickelson idolised Ballesteros, who is still remembered for his ability and indeed personality on and off the course.

Intriguingly, Gary Player claimed Ballesteros didn’t know much about a golf swing, but the Spaniard was on hand once upon a time to share a fantastic tip for getting out of bunkers.

Offering a demonstration, he explained: “You have to think about how much you have to hit behind the ball.

“It will be about an inch or an inch and a half. Then you have to control the distance by the speed of the club face.

“Now we have the feet, the knees, the hips and the shoulders, everything all square, but aiming to the left. That will make you swing across the line, with the club face open is what we need.

“Then on the takeaway, we have to make sure that the club face is open on the top, that way. This is square, this is closed, make sure it’s open.

“The tall of the grip has to aim between the ball and the feet, and then on the downswing the tall of the grip has to come to the center of the body and square with the ball, with the open club face right there.”
