Lowry has already shared plenty of advice with amateurs regarding the best way to go about chipping and pitching.

And the 2019 Open champion has now explained how to simplify shots around the greens.

Shane Lowry explains what every amateur gets wrong when chipping

Who better to learn from than the Irishman with one of the silkiest touches on the planet?

When speaking during an instructional video for Golf Digest, Lowry gave his best advice for amateurs looking to get better with a wedge in their hands around the greens.

“I only chip with two clubs,“ Lowry said.

“I use my lob wedge the majority of the time, and then the odd time, I’ll chip and run, but I’ll only chip and run with a pitching wedge. I don’t do anything else.

“I find, the big thing for me is, when I’m chipping, if I have too many options, like, I used to carry four wedges, so I’d have a 56 and a 60.

“And then the odd time, I’d chip with my 56, but then I’d have too many options, and I get, like, in between shots.

“So I’d end up getting a bit sloppy, whereas, like, now I practice with my pitching wedge and my lob wedge. I don’t use anything else.

“I just find that that gives me, you know, a bit of, uh, just more clear what I want to do in my head.“

Improve your chipping overnight by copying Lowry’s advice

The advice laid out by Lowry above is really simple, yet brilliant.

The fewer clubs you use when practicing, the better you will become around the greens.

Learn where you need to land two separate clubs for a regular chip shot and a pitch and run and then practice those two shots until they become second nature.

The harder and smarter you practice, the better you will become.

However, simplifying your chipping is the absolute key to success, as Shane Lowry explained.
