Aim Point is one of the most divisive discussion points on the PGA Tour these days.

Mark Sweeney is the founder and inventor of AimPoint Golf and he has completely changed the way in which many PGA Tour golfers, and amateurs for that matter, approach their putts.

However, there are just as many dissenting voices on the PGA Tour regarding AimPoint as there are supporters of the groundbreaking technique.

Lucas Glover is one of the most outspoken critics of AimPoint and he recently called for the method of reading putts to be banned.

Glover said: “AimPoint statistically hasn’t helped anybody make more putts since its inception on the PGA Tour,” he said. “Statistics have bared that out. It’s also kind of rude to be up near the hole, stomping around, figuring out where the break is in your feet. It needs to be banned. It takes forever.”

However, there are plenty of PGA Tour pros who believe that using AimPoint does not slow down the pace of play, if done correctly.

PGA Tour winner offers a ‘more simple and faster’ way to use AimPoint

Michael Kim – a one-time PGA Tour winner – is a fierce advocate for AimPoint.

Kim has stated that he uses the AimPoint method on around 50% of his putts, choosing to rely more on feel for longer, double-breakers.

He has become a huge social media star within golfing circles over the past year or two.

And Kim took to his X account to share some tips with amateur golfers pertaining to how they can use AimPoint more efficiently.

Here is his seven-point breakdown to help simplify using AimPoint:

AimPoint released stats in response to Lucas Glover’s claims

After Glover’s comments suggesting that there is no proof that the innovative method actually improves players’ putting, AimPoint came out with some stats of their own.

Earlier this year, they highlighted the results of 10 specific players who switched to AimPoint 12 months before.

Player nameStrokes gained putting improvements per tournamentExcess money earned due to SGP improvement
Max Homa1.5$3,015,193
Justin Rose0.7$1,619,499
Viktor Hovland0.8$1,388,305
Keegan Bradley1.2$1,025,898
Collin Morikawa0.5$895,113
Tommy Fleetwood1.2$782,817
Garrick Higgo2.3$585,543
Pierceson Coody1.3$338,590
Adam Scott0.2$263,320
Sam Burns0.2$49,329

There is clear evidence right there that AimPoint does work.

Of course, in the interest of balance, it must be pointed out that the AimPoint creators and their stats team clearly haven’t highlighted any players who have regressed after using their method, and there must be some out there.

The main issue with AimPoint is clearly the effect it has on pace of play, but if all golfers take note of Michael Kim’s tips, speed when reading the greens should not be much of an issue.
