Justin Rose has proven his superb ability once more by coming out on top at the FedEx St Jude Championship.

Rose received huge praise from Tommy Fleetwood in Memphis, with the pair having played together in the final round of the event.

Fleetwood finished T3 with Scottie Scheffler at the St Jude Championship, which Rose won after a playoff with J.J. Spaun.

Rose knows he’s on the right track, having just clinched his 12th PGA Tour win, and first since the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The Englishman just turned 45, but is showing no signs of slowing down, using all of his experience to triumph in Memphis on Sunday.

Justin Rose’s drill to help golfers hit more accurate irons

His fellow professionals can certainly learn a lot from the veteran, with the same to be said of amateur golfers.

And fortunately Rose was once on hand to offer a simple but effective backswing tip, as shared by Golf Digest.

Providing a demonstration, he explained: “If you’re a player that’s struggling with your hand path being a little bit too in on the backswing, here’s a way of thinking about it.

“And actually this is a little bit relevant to my swing at times. So if you take your backswing and your hands are diving on the inside, very good chance that your right elbow is also diving too far deep behind our midline.

“So often we have a seam on our shirt, and I try to visualize that my right elbow never gets behind my midline there.

“So one drill I’ll use is I’ll put my left arm across my chest and just use my fingers here to create a nice little barrier, so that when I take the club back, even though I’m turning my body, my right elbow cannot move behind me. And as I continue up to the top of my swing, I’m in a beautiful slot.

“And the other thing that it really helps me with is the slight external rotation that we need in our right arm to sort of be underneath the shaft at the top, which is going to give us a very strong position in which we can really turn our body through the ball, and have the club tracking down nicely from the inside. So it’s a little bit of a two-for-one.”

The Englishman ranked first for birdies throughout the week thanks to his total of 26, with 36 pars and 10 bogeys also recorded.

His focus now quickly turns to the BMW Championship this week, although he does deserve some more time to celebrate his superb victory in Tennessee.
