Justin Rose is one of the best ball-strikers in professional golf.

Rose has forged an incredible career for himself through exceptional ball-striking, and his swing is absolutely textbook.

The 45-year-old Englishman has one major championship to his name – the 2013 US Open – and 25 worldwide professional wins, including 11 on the PGA Tour.

Rose is actually in contention to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday, and he’ll be looking to make it 12 wins on the PGA Tour in his career.

If amateur golfers are looking for tips on how to improve their ball-striking off the tee, Rose is the man they should be listening to.

Especially when it comes to advice about ripping three-woods off the tee.

One thing you may see me do out on tour in my pre-shot routine is a little rehearsal, when I get to the top of my backswing, I like to feel that I stay closed halfway down.

I feel like my left arm is dropping down my chest as I stay closed to the target. That does a couple of things for me. It helps my rhythm and helps me stay patient from the top of the backswing. Also, it helps me keep a little bit of lag and angle as I move into the ball.

One of my faults is that I get a little too quick, I unwind too early, and when that happens I have to hit the brakes essentially and wait for the club to fall into the hitting zone. Hence, I have to time the impact so much more, and I end up actually losing the face through impact.

When I make this move, and really wait for it, now I put myself in a position where I have to turn very aggressively through impact. So I can pivot much harder, much faster, much more powerfully, and that actually stablizes the face through the hitting area.

That’s great advice from Rose and in simple terms, he’s talking about not rushing your swing from the top.

Give yourself time to complete your full turn on the backswing and load up from the top, before driving down through into impact.
