The U.S Open returns to Pinehurst No.2 for the first time in ten years in June – and here’s a look at where the top five from 2014 are now.
The challenging North Carolina course has previously hosted three U.S. Open Championships, coming in 1999, 2005 and 2014.
Now a bastion of U.S golf, Pinehurst’s reputation has grown over the years, and the 2024 championship promises to be a stern test of the world’s best players.
However, let’s rewind time ten years and take a look at where the 2014 top five are now.

1. Martin Kaymer
German Martin Kaymer ran away with the 2014 tournament, finishing on nine under par, eight shots clear of his nearest competitor.
The 39-year-old is now with LIV Golf and finished T73 in the PGA Championship at Valhalla, finishing on level par after shooting five over in his final round.
T2. Rickie Fowler
A well-known name who came close to his first major championship in the 2023 U.S. Open, Rickie Fowler finished T2 behind Kaymer at Pinehurst in 2014.
Fowler, still on the PGA Tour, finished T37 at the Charles Schwab Challenge last week after carding a disappointing six over in his final round.
T2. Erik Compton
Erik Compton produced an excellent finish back in 2014 in what was arguably the standout performance of his career.
The American – who has Norwegian descendants – is back on the Korn Ferry Tour and missed the cut in his most recent outing at the Visit Knoxville Open.
T4. Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson needs no introduction. The American finished on one-over-par in 2014 after shooting three-over in his final round.
Arguably one of LIV Golf’s biggest names, Johnson finished T43 at the PGA Championship after firing at five under in the final round.
He will be looking to silence some of his critics at Pinehurst in June.
T4. Henrik Stenson
Another LIV Golf player who threatened the leaderboard in 2014 was Henrik Stenson.
The Swede finished level with Johnson on one over par.
2024 hasn’t been kind to the 48-year-old, with a season-high finish of eighth in Hong Kong, the only positive outing to date.
