Playing golf in any conditions is a tough job but playing in the wind can make things nigh on impossible for even the best in the world.
With so much to take into consideration on a calm and dry day, getting to grips with adverse conditions like the wind or rain only further complicates our great game.
However, some players are masters when it comes to dealing with a stiff breeze or a strong gust, with players who have grown up on coastal or links courses particularly adept.

One golfer who is more than capable of getting it done in the wind is 2003 US Open champion, Jim Furyk.
With 17 PGA Tour wins to his name, Furyk knows a thing or two about getting the job done at any course in any conditions.
Thankfully for us, he once shared the advice he got from his own Dad on how to deal with the wind.

Jim Furyk’s tip for playing better golf in the wind
Being able to play in the wind is a massive advantage at the very top of the game.
We’ve seen over the years players like Tiger Woods rip fields apart by being able to play either under the wind or hit knockdown shots with scary accuracy.
Indeed, looking back at an old tip from Jim Furyk, he explained what his Dad had him doing in practice to ensure he learnt just how to control his golf ball.
“One of the best lessons I ever got was from my Dad, I was in college and I was already a good player I was shooting like 66s in college. And I was hitting some 8-irons to this pin and my Dad – at this time we didn’t have lasers – and he said how far is that pin away? So I was like it’s a full 8-iron and he said ‘alright here’s what I want you to do, I want you to hit 7-irons to that pin’.
“So I said well can I hit knockdowns can I choke down and he was like I just want you to hit 7-irons to the pin, so I just want you to make a full swing and I don’t want them to go past the pin. So I was hitting fat, I was hitting thin, I was struggling to basically be able to change the pace of my swing.
“But when I figured it out, nice and smooth, I noticed the ball flight came down, I controlled my distances well and it gave me another shot and tactic, and it’s what kind of taught me to play in the wind.”
Jim Furyk’s PGA Tour career in numbers
With advice coming from someone as experienced in the game as Jim Furyk, it’s always worth taking note and putting it into practice yourself.
Furyk has had a hugely successful career and we saw at the Presidents Cup how he can also turn his hand to being a fine leader as well.
Furyk’s own golf swing is memorable in itself but it does the job and looking at his stats over the years, it’s easy to see why he never tried to stray from his own method.
