It’s not often we get to see the men’s and women’s games combine in golf and it’s even rarer to see both sexes go head to head.

Thankfully, in the modern world of golf and with the power of social media platforms like YouTube and more, we are now getting the chance to see more and more dream match ups and combinations.

We’ve seen plenty of fourballs and foursomes in recent times, while Bryson DeChambeau’s Break 50 series has provided huge entertainment.

How many holes do you think is the perfect number for a round of golf?

“The game is more popular than ever among avid golfers with the income and leisure to play a lot, but most people have less free time than ever. The current generation of younger parents spends a lot more time supervising their kids than previous generations, and it means they find it harder to justify a weekend round of golf. Leaving for the course at 7 in the morning and coming back at 3 in the afternoon is a hard sell for a family man. But getting back in time for lunch wouldn’t be.

“That’s why we should consider the possibility of making 12 holes a standard round. It might mean breaking up 18-hole facilities into three segments of six holes. Of course it would meet resistance, but eventually it would be accepted because it would make sense in people’s lives.

“We need more young people to play this phenomenal game, because it’s a game you can play your entire life. So we’ve got to keep experimenting and see what we can do to make the game more appealing.

“I designed a golf course in Missouri, USA, that has 12 holes. It’s perfect for people who don’t have a whole day, because, let’s admit it, that is how long 18 holes can take to play golf. They can play 6 holes, or 9 holes or 12 holes if they please and it’s been a roaring success. You have the choice!

However, we’ve yet to see much of the LPGA vs PGA Tour. Until now.

Thanks to Jason Day, Tony Finau, Lydia Ko and Lilia Vu, we’ve now been given a snippet of what can happen over nine holes.

With the Grant Thornton Invitational taking place this week, it was the perfect time for the men’s and women’s games to come together.

Over on YouTube, we have been treated to nine holes of first-class golf thanks to the aforementioned four golfers.

Over the course of nine holes, all four players showed why they are on the professional tours they respectively play on.

However, in the end, it was the PGA Tour side of things who came out on top, as Day and Finau rounded out the match, winning three up in a match play format.

Nevertheless, this has certainly whet the appetite for more and with a bit of luck, we get a rematch of this and more in the not too distant future.

The dream match ups we could see from the LPGA and PGA Tours

These were four big names in the golf world in fairness and it was hugely entertaining.

It does beg the question, though, of the ideal matches we might see in the future.

An all British affair between Rory McIlroy and Charley Hull would go down a treat, as would an all American clash between Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler.

Other big names like Jeeno Thitikul, Lexi Thompson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas would also make for interesting viewing.

Certainly, this video shows what can be done and hopefully, both tours are taking notice.
