The 2024 season will likely be remembered as the breakout year for Xander Schauffele, with the world number two getting across the line and establishing himself as a superstar with two major wins.
Xander Schauffele won the PGA Championship and The Open Championship in 2024. While Scottie Scheffler was the player of the year, many players admitted that they would rather have Schauffele’s season. And it felt significant that Jim Furyk put him in the top match in three of the sessions at the Presidents Cup in September.
The rivalry between Scheffler and Schauffele could be the one to watch on the PGA Tour in 2025, with the two arguably well ahead of almost everyone else.
But interestingly, there are two players on LIV Golf who are actually performing better than Schauffele when it comes to strokes gained from tee to green.
Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm outperforming Xander Schauffele
According to Data Golf, Scheffler is number one in 2024, while it was Bryson DeChambeau in second and Jon Rahm in third. Schauffele meanwhile, is fourth. In fairness, the four men all boast outstanding numbers in that particular category.

The high point of DeChambeau’s year was obviously the win at the US Open. But he also finished second to Schauffele at the PGA Championship, and in the top 10 at The Masters.
Rahm meanwhile, marked his first year on LIV by winning the individual title. The Spaniard clinched victory on two occasions, while he did not finish outside the top 10 at any stage.
The most surprising name in the top 10
Perhaps the most interesting name in the top 10 is Justin Thomas. Thomas barely managed to make The Tour Championship and missed out on the Presidents Cup. And yet, the 31-year-old finds himself in ninth – one spot ahead of Joaquin Niemann, who Rahm beat to the individual title on LIV.
| Player | Strokes gained tee to green |
| 1. Scottie Scheffler | +3.07 |
| 2. Bryson DeChambeau | +2.60 |
| 3. Jon Rahm | +2.17 |
| 4. Xander Schauffele | +2.01 |
| 5. Sergio Garcia | +1.73 |
| 6. Rory McIlroy | +1.72 |
| 7. Hideki Matsuyama | +1.68 |
| 8. Collin Morikawa | +1.63 |
| 9. Justin Thomas | +1.61 |
| 10. Joaquin Niemann | +1.53 |
That will certainly give Thomas plenty of encouragement heading into 2025, particularly after his performance at the ZOZO Championship last week.
But clearly, there is still some distance between the four best players and the chasing pack.
