Another DP World Tour season has reached its conclusion, with Rory McIlroy once again winning the Race to Dubai title.

McIlroy lost in a playoff to Matt Fitzpatrick at the DP World Tour Championship, but earned enough points to claim the top prize.

He is now a seven-time Race to Dubai champion, leaving him just one shy of Colin Montgomerie’s all-time record.

McIlroy does, however, find himself at the very top of another list on the DP World Tour, well ahead of Montgomerie.

Paul McGinley makes big claim about Rory McIlroy after his latest season on the DP World Tour

McIlroy sent a classy message to Fitzpatrick despite his narrow loss, which arrived after just one hole at the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

And Paul McGinley has now done the same to McIlroy, writing on X: “Another successful season DP World Tour, despite the doom & gloom over the last few years of many. With changes in pro golf it evolved & thrived

“Congrats Matt & great to see more new stars emerge too. Rory box office & legacy secured as one of the greatest ever sportsmen.”

It’s certainly a fair comment on McIlroy, who firstly lived up to his box office nature by securing an eagle to force a playoff in Dubai.

And with seven Race to Dubai titles, including each of the last four, it’s fair to say he can be regarded as one of the greatest sportsmen ever, not just among golfers.
