Tiger Woods has been around the block enough to know his golf game and the repercussions of being such a star inside out.

Over a 30 year career, Woods has been there and done it all and will go down as one of, if not the, greatest golfers of all-time.

Still, being a professional athlete comes with sacrifices that a lot of us mere mortals probably don’t ever think about.

Of course, with Woods, we all know he’s paid the ultimate price with countless injuries and surgeries over his career.

But speaking in an interview back in 2022, Woods actually revealed a surprising element of physicality that few would even think of.

What Tiger Woods revealed about his weight during golf tournaments

While the likes of the NBA and NFL see us bare witness to some of the greatest and most finely tuned athletes on the planet, we rarely look at golfers in the same sphere.

However, when you think about the course of a four-round tournament and with practice included, that is a lot of mileage put on the body.

So much so, that Woods revealed what he likes to eat out on course to simply ensure he maintains weight.

“Probably a peanut butter and banana sandwich,” Woods replied when asked for his favourite food to eat while playing.

“I tend to lose weight when I play. Every time I play I tend to lose three or four pounds per tournament.”

Will we ever see a celebrity golfer make it on the PGA Tour?

Years ago, it would almost seem impossible.

However, with the rise of platforms like YouTube and others, we are seeing more and more non-golfers take up the game and it only feels a matter of time before a ‘celeb’ makes it all the way.

How many holes do you think is the perfect number for a round of golf?

“The game is more popular than ever among avid golfers with the income and leisure to play a lot, but most people have less free time than ever. The current generation of younger parents spends a lot more time supervising their kids than previous generations, and it means they find it harder to justify a weekend round of golf. Leaving for the course at 7 in the morning and coming back at 3 in the afternoon is a hard sell for a family man. But getting back in time for lunch wouldn’t be.

“That’s why we should consider the possibility of making 12 holes a standard round. It might mean breaking up 18-hole facilities into three segments of six holes. Of course it would meet resistance, but eventually it would be accepted because it would make sense in people’s lives.

“We need more young people to play this phenomenal game, because it’s a game you can play your entire life. So we’ve got to keep experimenting and see what we can do to make the game more appealing.

“I designed a golf course in Missouri, USA, that has 12 holes. It’s perfect for people who don’t have a whole day, because, let’s admit it, that is how long 18 holes can take to play golf. They can play 6 holes, or 9 holes or 12 holes if they please and it’s been a roaring success. You have the choice!

Sure, a lot would need to go right for them to make it on the PGA Tour. After all, a lot of them have their own careers and would likely need to sacrifice a lot of that to make the TOUR.

Nevertheless, if it’s going to happen, it is in this modern era where it could. The likes of Steph Curry and as Woods mentioned here, Tony Romo, are not too far off and ultimately, are showing the pathway for others.
