David Puig confirmed his spot as one of the most exciting young players in the world today with his victory at the Australian PGA Championship on Sunday.

In his first start as a full member of the DP World Tour, Puig was able to secure an impressive win, finishing two shots clear of Wenyi Ding at Royal Queensland.

Anyone who has watched Puig play will not be surprised to see him add a third professional title to his collection.

The 23-year-old hits the ball a mile, while he was also excellent on the greens on LIV Golf in 2025.

Why David Puig decided to sign with LIV Golf rather than pursue a PGA Tour card

The victory shows what a coup it was for LIV to secure his signature back in 2022, with the Spaniard teeing it up in the very first event at Centurion.

At the time, he would not have been considered a household name by any means. But he was certainly a player to keep an eye on given that he was the ninth-best amateur in the world.

And, in comments reported by Golf.com at the time, Puig outlined that he decided to turn professional and join LIV due to the lack of opportunities he feared he would get on the PGA Tour.

“Why now?” Puig said. “You know, I actually think I had a pretty good amateur career, and I didn’t get a lot of – or basically just one opportunity – to play with pros before LIV even started. LIV was very supportive, and they gave me two exemptions as an amateur, which I really appreciated them a lot.

“At least for what I know, getting into the Phoenix Open is pretty tough, especially when a guy is from Spain. Preston [Summerhays], one of my teammates, he had the chance to play in the Phoenix Open, and he deserves it. He’s an awesome guy, awesome player, but I think when he was 10 years old he was already a member at TPC Scottsdale or helped with the tournament somehow or something like that.

“I think that’s how he got it, and as I said, he deserved it 100 percent, but it’s tough. Kevin Yu, he was a really great player at ASU, never had the chance, and I think the last amateur that competed there was Jon Rahm when he was playing awesome at ASU.”

Where David Puig outperformed Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau on LIV Golf in 2025

Puig is certainly not the finished article. His iron play left a lot to be desired this past season. However, he has the explosive power off the tee and the touch on the greens to be a superstar in the future.

Only Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Joaquin Niemann gained more strokes off the tee during the 2025 season on LIV than Puig.

Meanwhile, he was also sixth for strokes gained putting. Of the top three players in the season standings, Rahm was the closest to his countryman, with the Legion XIII captain 10th in that particular category.

So it should definitely come as no surprise if the Australian PGA Championship does not prove to be the last time Puig wins in the 2026 season.
