While LIV Golf is far from the perfect product, there is no question that the PGA Tour has lost a number of outstanding players in the last four years.
Obviously, LIV Golf managed to convince several major champions to join. Phil Mickelson arguably paved the way for others to leave the PGA Tour. The likes of Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka had previously been world number ones. And Cam Smith had just won The Open Championship when he made the move.
But there were also some extremely talented younger players who decided to make the move to LIV.
Joaquin Niemann had won twice on the PGA Tour before making the jump. Of course, he has gone on to have huge success in the breakaway league.
The same cannot quite be said for the player who actually finished the 2021-22 season as the best putter on the PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour’s best putter in 2022 is still awaiting his first LIV Golf victory
Most of Lucas Herbert’s success, so far, has come on the DP World Tour. He has won three times, including the 2020 Dubai Desert Classic and the Irish Open the following year.
The Australian also won on the PGA Tour, at the 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

He actually missed 10 cuts in 20 starts that season. The 29-year-old did register a top 10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Meanwhile, he finished inside the top 20 at both the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
It remains the only season to date where Herbert has played in all four majors.
And Herbert ended the year at number one for strokes gained putting, with Denny McCarthy in second place.
| Ranking | Player | Strokes gained putting |
| 1 | Lucas Herbert | 0.853 |
| 2 | Denny McCarthy | 0.818 |
| 3 | Brendon Todd | 0.781 |
| 4 | Tyrrell Hatton | 0.742 |
| 5 | Beau Hossler | 0.717 |
Interestingly, he has not been as strong on the greens on LIV.
How Lucas Herbert has performed since joining LIV Golf ahead of the 2024 season
Herbert made the move to LIV ahead of the 2024 season, joining Ripper GC. It proved to be a successful campaign for the Australian team as they won the Team Championship.
He finished a very respectable 15th in the individual standings in 2025, with the high point coming in the form of a second place finish in Mexico. Herbert shot an incredible final round of 10 under par to move onto the podium.
Herbert actually sits 34th for strokes gained putting on LIV in 2025, according to Data Golf. He lost 0.09 shots on the greens across the season. His biggest strength was off the tee where he found himself just inside the top 10.
His putting appears to have experienced quite the drop off. He was second behind teammate Cam Smith during his debut season, having gained 0.74 on the greens in 2024.
Herbert – who did win an International Series event earlier this year – does not turn 30 until December. So there is plenty of time for him to turn his fortunes back around. However, his best finish in his last six events was tied for 25th.
So he will be looking for a much stronger 2026 with Herbert possessing the talent to perform significantly better.
