Lucas Glover certainly didn’t beat around the bush when discussing the merits of LIV Golf players potentially returning to the PGA Tour.

Glover has really made a name for himself in recent years due to his outspoken nature regarding all matters that affect the members of the PGA Tour.

On Thursday, Glover insisted that he didn’t want to play alongside LIV golfers ever again.

The PGA Tour stalwart suggested that those who left to join the Saudi-backed golf league made their choice full in the knowledge that they were burning bridges.

However, Glover doesn’t speak for everyone on tour.

Billy Horschel made it clear that he would be happy to welcome back the LIV players, and there are undoubtedly others who agree with him.

Surely most golf fans can see that Glover’s comments were borne from a place of his own selfishness? There is nothing wrong with that, he wants to secure his future and make it as lucrative as possible after all.

And in fairness to Glover, he does have somewhat of a point, if he was offered a place on LIV like he seemed to hint that he was, as he chose to stay on the PGA Tour.

But let’s not pretend he said what he said for any reason aside other than looking after number one.

The reason why Lucas Glover said he didn’t want LIV players back on the PGA Tour

The Official Golf World Rankings are completely skewed right now, due to the fact that LIV players do not receive ranking points when playing in their events.

Glover currently sits in 46th place in the World Rankings, and let’s get things straight here; there is no way he’d be in that position if the LIV guys were still playing on the PGA Tour.

And as a result, he gets into all the majors at the moment. If he dropped outside the top 50 that would not be the case.

Oh, and another thing he seems to be forgetting is that he has a larger ‘piece of the pie’, as he put it, because of the players who left to join LIV.

Since the inception of LIV Golf, PGA Tour purses have risen astronomically.

The last couple of years have seen the emergence of the Signature Events, originally known as ‘designated events’.

And Glover’s status on the PGA Tour means that he is exempt to play in all eight of those every single season right now.

Lucas Glover’s record since June 2022 vs the rest of his career on the PGA Tour

Glover’s results have definitely improved in general since numerous players moved on from the PGA Tour.

There is absolutely no doubt that the fields are weaker now without the likes of Jon Rahm Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin Niemann and Brooks Koepka.

And with that in mind, here is how Glover’s results from June 2022 onwards look in comparison to his 21 years on tour before that.

Aside from the made cuts percentage, Glover has performed a lot better pound for pound than he did before the players left to join LIV.

It’s obviously in his best interest to keep things the way that they are.

Why upset the apple cart when everything is going so smoothly? Glover’s intentions are very clear to see but at the end of the day, he has every right to think that way.
