Wales has long been a sanctuary for golfers seeking rugged coastlines and championship challenges.

However, as we move through 2026, the cost of a tee time at the country’s elite venues has reached new heights. From the legendary links of the south to the historic dunes in the north, the premium for playing these world-class layouts is getting out of hand.

For those willing to pay the hefty price, these courses offer some of the most sought-after challenges in world golf. Here, we break down the five most expensive green fees in Wales for the 2026 season.

5. Royal St David’s Golf Club

2026 Peak Green Fee: £145

Sitting in the shadow of Harlech Castle, this is one of the world’s most scenic links courses. Established in 1894, this course is frequently dubbed the world’s toughest par 69 due to its undulating fairways and the unpredictable coastal winds that sweep across Cardigan Bay.

The layout is a tale of two halves. First, a relatively flat opening followed by a back nine that weaves through towering, rugged dunes.

In 2026, green fees remain a premium yet competitive £145, securing its status as a top-tier championship venue that has hosted over 80 national and international tournaments.

4. Pennard Golf Club

2026 Peak Green Fee: £145

Perched on the rugged cliffs of the Gower Peninsula, Pennard Golf Club is affectionately known as “The Links in the Sky.” Located 200 feet above the Bristol Channel, it offers a surreal golfing experience where traditional links turf and deep, wind-carved bunkers exist high above the shoreline.

The course is famous for its wild character, featuring wandering livestock and the ruins of a 12th-century Norman castle that stands guard over the seventh hole.

For the 2026 season, peak summer green fees have also reached £145 on Saturdays, placing it firmly among Wales’ most exclusive golfing destinations.

3. Aberdovey Golf Club

2026 Peak Green Fee: £160

Set within the breathtaking Snowdonia National Park, Aberdovey Golf Club is a historic links that serves as the spiritual home of Welsh golf. Founded in 1892, it was famously the childhood haunt of legendary golf writer Bernard Darwin, who once described the course as “the one my soul loves best.”

The layout is squeezed between the Cambrian Mountains and the shoreline. Its most iconic feature is the third hole, Cader, where golfers must fire blindly over a massive dune.

In 2026, Aberdovey’s peak summer green fees reached £160 for a single round.

2. Celtic Manor

2026 Peak Green Fee: £210

As the first course in history purpose-built to host the Ryder Cup, the Twenty Ten Course at the Celtic Manor Resort is a monument to modern championship golf. This course offers a totally different experience to the coastal links courses on this list.

Playing here is as much about the pro experience as the golf itself. Your green fee includes a personalised locker in the Ryder Cup locker room, bag drop services, and access to the elite practice facilities.

For the 2026 season, the Twenty Ten remains one of the most premium tee times in the UK.

Peak summer green fees for visitors have climbed to £210 for Friday through Sunday play, while midweek rounds start from £179. It is a bucket-list destination for those who want to walk in the footsteps of legends like Graeme McDowell and Tiger Woods.

1. Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

2026 Peak Green Fee: £275

Widely considered the best golf course in Wales, Royal Porthcawl Golf Club provides a dramatic backdrop for a world-class round.

The club has a storied history of hosting major events, including the Amateur Championship, the Walker Cup, and the Senior Open Championship. It is famous for its opening three holes, which play directly along the shoreline, and its challenging finish.

For the 2026 season, Royal Porthcawl commands the highest green fees in the country, with peak summer rounds priced at £275 for visitors.
