Scottie Scheffler’s remarkable 2024 continued yesterday as he won The Memorial to make it five victories for the year.

Scheffler battled with Collin Morikawa on the final day at Muirfield and produced a clutch putt on the 18th to see things home.

For Scheffler, it means he’s now won a number of high profile tournaments this year and goes into this week’s US Open as the overwhelming favourite.

It means Scheffler has now won The Masters, The Players, The Arnold Palmer, The RBC Heritage, and now The Memorial in 2024, and with that, he’s made himself considerably richer.

Scottie Scheffler breaks PGA money record by winning at The Memorial

Of course, winning golf tournaments is the biggest buzz a player can get. But as we know, winning big tournaments also brings mass riches as well.

And after winning at Jack Nicklaus’ course yesterday, Scottie Scheffler broke yet another record in terms of money won during a season.

Scheffler pocketed a tidy $4m for his win at The Memorial and that has now ticked him over the $21m he earned last year.

Remarkably, there are three months of the golf season left as well, meaning Scheffler could well go on to set a record that might never be broken.

Who else has made huge money in a single PGA Tour season?

As we know, LIV Golf has brought huge money to the game so we cannot discuss those players in this list, while it’s also worth noting that the purses have increased in the last 12 months as well on the PGA Tour.

However, it remains impressive what Scheffler has done.

Others, though, have had massive years in terms of prize money.

Jon Rahm is the man behind Scheffler in the list at the moment, having pocketed a cool $16.5m back in the 2022/23 season. Coincidentally, that was the same year Scheffler earned a whopping $21m himself.

Viktor Hovland has also lined his pockets in 22/23, landing over $14m in prize money.

Looking further back before the money boomed, Jordan Spieth made himself $12m back in the 2015/16 season.

Even further back in time was Vijay Singh, who made a stunning $10.9m back in 2004. Singh won nine times that year, including the PGA Championship, and given it’s now 20 years back, it’s quite the amount.
