Now that the 2026 major season is in the books, it’s a good time to look back on which players performed well, and which ones will be chalking it up as a year to forget.
Rory McIlroy kicked off the 20-26 major season in style by winning The Masters.
Then Aaron Rai shocked everyone by winning The PGA Championship at Aronimink before Wyndham Clark won his second US Open title at Shinnecock Hills.
Finally, Ryan Fox ended the major season by winning The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
So, how did every single one of the biggest stars in the game rank after their performances at all four majors?
Ranking how the big names performed in the majors in 2026
Starting with the world number one Scottie Scheffler, we have given the game’s biggest names a grade for their displays in the four majors in 2026.
Scottie Scheffler: B+
Scheffler recorded three top-5 finishes at The Masters, The US Open and The Open, and T-14 at the PGA Championship.
He was runner-up at The Masters, missing out by just one stroke to Rory McIlroy.
If anyone else aside from McIlroy recorded the results that Scheffler did at the majors this year, he would have finished with an A grade.
Rory McIlroy: A-
McIlroy‘s Masters win means he has to finish the season with an A- at least. However, his performances in the other three majors were fairly underwhelming with T-7, T-32 and T-40 finishes at the PGA, The US Open and The Open respectively.
Cam Young: B+
Young recorded two top-3 finishes and a T-26 and T-43 finishes at the majors this year. He is so close to finally winning a major and that will be his primary goal in 2027.
Matt Fitzpatrick: B-
A steady year in the majors for Fitzpatrick, if not a spectacular one. His only missed cut surprisingly came at The Open.
The Englishman finished in a tie for 18th at The Masters, a tie for 14th at the PGA and 22nd at The US Open.
Tommy Fleetwood: C
The Englishman’s best finish in the four majors came last week at The Open when he ended up in a tie for fourth.
However, he missed the cut at The PGA Championship and recorded a T-33 at The Masters and a T-11 at Shinnecock.
An average major season at best for Fleetwood.
Collin Morikawa: B
Morikawa’s grade was made taking his back injury into account.
Obviously he expects to win every major he tees it up at but his back problems have seriously hindered his chances of doing that this year.
He finished in a tie for seventh at The Masters, and recorded T-55, T-17 and T-18 finishes at the PGA, The US Open and The Open respectively.
Wyndham Clark: A-
Clark won the US Open, so he quite simply has to finish on some kind of A grade.
However, his performances in two of the other majors let him down badly, with missed cuts at The Open and The PGA Championship. A tie for 21st at The Masters represented a decent week for him, though.
Xander Schauffele: B
A solid year for Schauffele despite the fact that he failed to win a major championship.
Two top-10s, a T-11 and a T-18 shows just how consistent he was in the majors this year.
Ludvig Aberg: B
Just like Schauffele, Aberg was incredibly consistent in 2026 at the majors, with two top-10s, a T-17 and a T-21 top his name.
However, aside from the PGA he never really had a chance of winning any of them.
Brooks Koepka – C
A poor year on the whole for Koepka. He finished in a tie for 12th at The Masters but missed the cut at The US Open.
He recorded a T-55 finish at the PGA and then a T-28 at The Open. Bigger and better things will be expected of him next year.
LIV Golf’s biggest stars fail to deliver in the majors
Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau flattered to deceive at the majors this season.
Rahm did finished in a tie for second at the PGA Championship, but he wasn’t close to winning in the end.
But what grades did the LIV Golf duo end up with?
Bryson DeChambeau: E
DeChambeau missed the cut at the first three major championships of the season.
After his fine performances in 2025 when he recorded three top-10 finishes, many golf fans expected him to add to his collection of two US Open titles.
However, the only time he generated headlines was at The Open and that was for all the wrong reasons. He finished in a tie for 14th at Royal Birkdale, but that is not even close to being a successful week for him.
Next year will be huge for DeChambeau, with the pressure really on to perform.
Jon Rahm: C
The Spaniard finished in a tie for 38th at The Masters before finishing in a tie for second at The PGA Championship.
He then missed the cut at The US Open before finishing in a tie for 46th at The Open.
Rahm is so much better than those results suggest and he will surely be disappointed with his performances at the majors this year.
Just like DeChambeau, 2027 will be a hugely important year for Rahm in the major championships.
And he will be desperate to add to his collection of two majors as soon as possible.
