Luke Donald will be a content man on Saturday evening, with the Ryder Cup now just under two weeks away from starting.
With day three of the BMW PGA Championship in the books, it’s not long now until Donald‘s attention will be focused solely on the upcoming Ryder Cup.
There are many things for the European Ryder Cup captain to be extremely excited about ahead of the showdown with the United States team at Bethpage Black.
Keegan Bradley, his players and the fans at Bethpage will provide an extremely hostile welcoming for the Europeans when the Ryder Cup gets underway in 13 days’ time, and rightly so.
However, Donald will be quietly confident of guiding his team to another Ryder Cup triumph, with the US team looking far from settled right now.

Donald has numerous things working in his favour right now.
That said, there’s one very big potential problem staring him squarely in the face as well.
Luke Donald’s four reasons to be excited but one issue at the BMW PGA will leave him worried
Numerous shoots of light have emerged for Team Europe at the DP World Tour’s flagship event this week.
Viktor Hovland, Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, PGA Tour star Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick are all currently sitting inside the top-10 at the BMW PGA, with one round remaining.
Donald will obviously be very happy to see those four players putting in such good showings. It’s always good news to have numerous players in form heading into a Ryder Cup.
However, the Europeans have one big issue right now that not many people seem to be talking about, one that was badly exposed during the BMW Championship.
This may sound slightly harsh but Rasmus Hojgaard is undoubtedly the weak link for Team Europe.
The Danish rookie put in an incredibly poor showing at Wentworth this week, shooting rounds of 75 and 74 to miss the cut by seven shots.

That’s hardly great timing for Hojgaard, and indeed the Europeans, is it?
The 24-year-old qualified for the team in the last qualifying event of the DP World Tour season, and had he not done that, it’s doubtful he would have received a captain’s pick.
Hojgaard was extremely underwhelming on the PGA Tour in 2025 as well, finishing in 85th spot in the FedEx Cup standings.
His form will be a big concern for Donald; make no mistake about that.
Keegan Bradley has his own problems ahead of the Ryder Cup
Six of the United States Ryder Cup team playing at the Procore Championship over in California have hardly covered themselves in glory on the golf course this week.
Sam Burns, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young, Justin Thomas and Harris English are all currently sitting outside the top 30 with one round remaining.
Bradley will not be panicking just yet – it would be silly of him if he was.
However, the form of certain players, Morikawa and Thomas specifically, simply cannot be ignored.
Two weeks is not a long time in the world of professional golf and those two players will have to find something very quickly indeed if they are to be positive influences for Team USA at Bethpage.
Right now, it’s probably Luke Donald who’s the happier of the two captains heading into the Ryder Cup.
That said, none of us will truly know which side has the upper hand until we see the first day’s action in New York on September 26th.
